Filipino citizen here. I have a different take. While there are still many devout Catholics, many are cafeteria types. I’m a millennial living in Manila and from an upper middle class, educated demographic. Most of my peers are Catholic but many if not all are the liberal type. Many people here attend Mass every Sunday but are into pro gay and feminist and reproductive health stuff. Many people also have premarital sex and shack up, whether rich, middle class, or poor. It is also like in the West. There are devout priests I have encountered, but then again also espouse socialist mindsets. I guess the situation of being a majority Catholic country and all these things are a paradox.
I find this largely because of ignorance about the faith due to poor teaching not just by the Church but by the parents who must take a large share of the blame. Also those who are ignorant about teachings do not make an effort to find out about them so they may properly understand them. They take an easy path and simply reject teachings. However, they don’t understand that this path leads them away from Christ.

I also wanted to mention that when I went through the RCIA program (not in the Philippines) and converted to the Catholic faith my wife (filipino and born and brought up and devout Catholic) learned more from me about her faith when I came home from the classes and discussed everything with her.

Our Priest is Filipino ! He has a very large Parish, with 6 weekend Masses (4 English, & two huge Masses in Spanish ) and the 5 weekday Masses. He’s a great Priest, fluent in Spanish.

Mass attendance must be higher though than it is in the West…based on the vast numbers of Filipinos in so many of our parishes here in Vancouver. We would have a lot of half empty churches without them!

Yes, that’s true. Mass attendance here is higher than in the West.
