Filmmaking is the work of Satan

God made me an actress, a writer, and a musician so I figure he wants me to take the talent he gave me and use it. He may be calling you to be a voice for him in the wilderness. If he is, you can expect the devil to hop in there and wear you down with “you can’t do that, it’ll never happen” etc etc followed by a stream of well-meaning people to make you see how impossible it all is and tell you to get out before you even start. Why? Because the devil knows the power of film and he wants to use it for his purposes, not God’s. What better way to keep the rest of us out of it than to discourage us from even trying? Go find a perpetual adoration chapel and spend an hour there in silence with God. Ask him what he wants you to do.

My favorite movie of all time is It’s a Wonderful Life. It was panned when it first came out yet is being shown all these many years later. Guideposts or Angels on Earth magazine had an article on it a year or a few years back talking about lives that had been changed from seeing that movie. Wish I’d kept it.

Personally, I hope you stay in for purely self-serving reasons. As an actress, I’d love to have more directors with worthy projects and great roles. As a writer, I’d love to have a director direct my worthy projects with great roles for other actors who are praying for just such a director and just such projects. 🙂

By the same argument, one could say that the Catholic Church and people wasted large sums of money building the monumentental Churches and Vatican City with it’s art and statues… wow, what a waste of money, building beautiful churches is the work of Satan!

Fact: There’s enough money and manpower in the world to make expensive films AND help the needy… even if filmmaking is eradicated, I bet you people will still find other places to ‘waste’ their well earned money… That $10 you’d have spent on a movie ticket will simply go to a concert or heck, art supplies to waste on another pitiful painting…

I’m a big fan of film, I love it’s escapism, it’s entertrainment, it’s ability to teach, educate and move you, as well it lets people express themselves artistically and employs people! Sure there’s a lot of schlock being made, but at the same time there are many beautiful gems to be found…

Thanks for those links - interesting stuff. I liked this bit, from the comments:

(I’m not directing that at you jackpuffin, it’s just for general interest.)

What’s your signature from Reed?
Yeah, Barb’s rant that inspired that comment and others was good too.

Signature is a song lyric from Rich Mullins. See my bio.

Your a junior in the USC film program, one of the most academic competitive programs to enter in the country, and you “despise” film. Sure. And how much are you paying per term to participate in this despised “blasphemy”?

The internet is, without doubt, the biggest tool for pornography and dissemination of evil ideas since the Creation, but use of *it *doesn’t seem to bother you.

Making a film about trolls, maybe?
