My Son, was street person homeless. I know nothing about his religion. He is now in a liver-coma,

I was told that when he first was brought in (he was awake and knowledgeable. The Chaplin (a Catholic Priest) performed the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. At this time, neither I nor my wife knew, he was in Hospital. Later, when we were notified we went to the Hospital with my oldest Son (who is a Catholic), advised us that the aforesaid ritual, ( It was performed twice, the second time while he was in coma.), did not actually mean that he was saved and accepted by God.

We have not been able to see the Priest who performed the two Sacrament…We don’t know what the status is for my Son who is in the coma with no chance of survival. Can you explain the Anointing of The Sick covers, especially if he was not a Christian??

Here is an article on the sacrament. If he was not a Christian and it unable to repent (only God knows what is going on in his mind while in a coma), it won’t serve much good for him. Trust the mercy of God and turn it over to Him.

the sacraments work, they always work, Jesus gave us the sacraments as means of assuring us that we are in his good grace, but he is not bound by the sacraments. Your son has received the comfort and mercy of Jesus Christ himself, through the action of the priest. As to how that has come about, we need not concern ourselves, we need merely trust your son to the love of Christ.

I am so sorry about the anguish you are experiencing. The others here have given excellent advice. By the Sacrament of Annointing, he has been forgiven. May you find some solace and comfort in knowing that. I will remember him and you as a special intention in my prayers.

Additionally, ask your oldest son to pray the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy in the presence of your sick son.
