Simon is receiving many “pats on the back” out of here… which, of course is a good gesture. He sounds like a good man.

BUT… he is leaving with very POOR understanding of Catholicism. He is saying… “thanks for sharing all! I have learned much from you… but, still don’t quite hold the same beliefs… got to go now.”

We Catholics: “Take care, buddy… glad you have a better understanding!”



He does NOT have an understanding. His initial post is full of misunderstandings and false statements.

I used some verbage incorrectly, but I do feel I understand you beliefs, what I am saying is I don’t think the way I once did about Catholocism, and my statements were more of the way protestants think. On these issues.

I don’t see much in that posting that would tell me he has any understanding of what the catholic faith is about. But God Bless you anyhow for trying at least.

I do understand confessionals, Rattlesnake I get these things and your right maybe I still don’t get the deep doctrinal issues of your ways of achieving salvation etc. but I do have a better understanding. My son is being raised in this and I had serious issues of it coming in but now am no longer so concerned.

I can agree with others that we must have given you a very poor understanding of Catholic belief since some of the things you presented as stated before are way off.
But you do have a much more charitable and closer understanding than most of the Evangelicals who come to this site. So thank you for coming and talking with us.

Come back when you have time to clear up the rest of the misconceptions, such as the Ephesians 2:8-9 which Catholics read as Ephesians 2:8-10 and the rest, there is a big difference.

You’ve gained some insight, but you still have some mistakes in what you have picked up. Maybe it was OUR verbage that got in the way… If so…forgive us.

Human communication is so complex. sigh

Anyway, I wish you well and I rejoice that we have been a bridge of some better understanding between you and your son. At least you have a starting place now and you know he’s not joining some anti-Christ cult or some such foolishness.

Personally, I like the name Simon. It fits with Peter and that is about as apostolic as one can get. May St. Simon Peter intercede for you as your namesake and gain for you graces to better understand the New Testament Christianity that he gave his life for.
