Why are you being mean to me? I’m not LDS I just know people who say it is a nice please to go.sorry… 😦
Patty -
do not appologize for trying to help out someone with a question. As you have probably figured out, most of the Catholics here are very angry, bitter and or completely misinformed and feel that it is their personal mission to spew forth all of that to any Mormon or Catholic that might be sympathetic to Mormons. Bless you for your breath of fresh air that you brought!:hug3:

Wow! So you must have visited the site yourself and asked questions? Good for you! If you have not visited the site, then do not pressume to know what will or will not be said.

Annie
Why yes I have. You get the same thing you get from mormons here. Evasiveness. Questions not answered. And a lot of “read the Book of Mormon”. It is nothing but a proselytizing tool.

this is catholic answers not ldsmissionaries.org or anything like it. advertising for LDs missionary sites here is not going to be appreciated. as to being misinformed, most LDS that come here seem to have be very lacking in their study of LDs history and the development of LDS doctrine. many here have not only studied it for years but taught it for years too. many of us have been in leadership positions in the LDS church and we know how it runs. many here are RMs too who know exactly what techniques are used to get converts. you can spew all the buzzwords you want and do all the testimony bearing you want but to no avail. we know the truth. we have experienced the true church and the real presence. we know the ONE true God and we also know he would never allow his church to fail nor would he leave the world in darkness for 1800 years. his truth does not change. we also know of the overwhelming evidence against the BoM even being capable of being true, the farce of the BoA facsimiles, JS womanizing, his money and land scams, BY totalitarian racist regime, the racist preachings of Benson, Petersen and Mconkie. the anticatholic rants of the Pratts, john Taylor, Mconkie. the shameful dissembling of GBH, the faith promoting lies of Paul dunn, the revisionist history with persecution of truthful historians of Boyd Packer and the sad truth about the Temple endowment.

No we are neither bitter, angry nor misinformed. we are sad that not only have you been deceived but that you are dedicating your life to the proliferation of this deceit. Every time a Christian is pulled from worship of the ONE God to follow an exalted man from an endless chain of exalted men in an attempt to achieve godhood Satan laughs. He doesn’t even have to tempt anymore…he has an army of missionaries to do it for him.😦

I am sorry that you feel that way. At least you did check it out.

You are right about one thing - this is a Catholic site. However, if this Catholic site does not want to hear anything about the LDS church, then they should not have a “non Catholic religions” category. Maybe you should take this up with Catholic Answers.

Oh, I think it is much more informative for the Mormans here to spew their ridiculous “doctrine” and let Catholics dismantle and show the deceitful nature of your cult, based on either outright lies or mental illness.

Annie I don’t know a great deal about the Mormans other than a few rumours etc which are not particularly bad ones in of themselves so they don’t makeme think mormons are “evil”

We are all people on a path and we struggle to go down the same sort of path becasue we are taught differently adnthen our ego and pride gets in the way when perhaps we should hop off one path and onto another one. That applies to all of life not just religeon.

Just out of interests sake I read this thread and I was a little bored.

People have asked you questions about your faith on this site yet in many cases you refuse to answer. I don’t expect you to know the nitty gritty parts of your faith, but I do expect you to know some parts of your faith and naturaly enugh you can feel free to say that in your answers it may not be exact and that you will always defer back to your Morman faith if your elocution of your faith is insufficient.

Gee wiz you could just be plain wrong about some aspects of your faith, I know I have some misunderstanding about my faith in relation to some matter.

So in relaiton to those who ask about whether or not your God lives on another planet etc, can you tell us the answers as much as you know…

Your free to believe as you wish as anyone else is and it is only at our death will we find out about the veracity of our beliefs, (mind you if the atheists are right we will never now)

i think we are all more than willing to hear truth and CA (as indicated by the OP) has certainly made their position clear. just stop being surprised that no one here is eager to schedule appointments with the missionaries or seek out LDS to go to church with or schedule appointments with local LDS bishops. the truth is out there. we can discuss it all day and that’s great. if folks her were thinking about converting then they would be on LDs sites asking those folks about it. people come here either because they are curious about catholics, want to become catholic OR are catholic and curious about mormons because of friends, neighbors, or missionaries at their door.

and what reason would that be?
For the reason that was stated in that article (by a Catholic):

Msgr. Mannion calls the cathedral the “most visible physical symbol” of the faith in Utah. He mentions that Thomas Monson, LDS First Counselor, brought greetings from his Church to the Catholic community assembled for the reopening of the Cathedral in 1993. . . . The Latter-day Saints also contributed to the renovation fund.

“The Catholics and Mormons get along better than people might expect. A good sense of respect permeates relations and has done so over the decades. A strong pro-life, pro-family stance is something we share and we cooperate to further these values,” Msgr. Mannion says, seeing this as the big story in his diocese.
no the catholic church has no desire to build mormon temples
I figured.

I had this sneaky feeling that Rebecca just may be in the minority in Utah with her antimormon feelings. I did have this impression that the relationship between the two faiths in Utah may be just fine. Now if catholic answers will see the folly of their attack…🙂

I wonder how the Catholic Church in Utah would feel about the campaign by catholic answers…I would think not to happy.

zerinus,

I for one would never presume to tell you or any one that your religion is false. So I will ask you to clarify some things that all us believe that the LDS teach.

1)God the father has a physical body and lives on a distant plant with a wife and raising a family.
  1. That Jesus was the first born of is God couple and him and his younger brother Lucifer both came to earth to lead people to God.
  2. That we can become gods ourselves and create our own universes/worlds of people to be gods of.
  3. That Adam and eve did not sin when they ate from the tree of life and where cast from the garden.
Please show me were in any old or new testament or writings of the early 1st century Church that any of these is beliefs were held or taught.
May I ask where you got these questions from, and what makes you so sure that this is what we actually believe or teach?

Why is it anti-Mormon to call your religion a fraud when I believe it is a fraud? I don’t really consider that would be anti-Catholic if you were doing it. I was even supporting Mitt Romney for President. Does that sound like an anti-Mormon? It’s not like I want to throw you folks in jail or keep you from getting a job or even take your children away from you to have them deprogrammed.

I was reading this site actually and want to ask an honest question.
6. Divine Potential of Human Beings: Latter-day Saints are said to believe that they may eventually become “gods,” thus making their church a non-Christian cult. Indeed, any group is said to be a cult if they teach that man has divine potential or that man can become like Christ, glorified with Christ, or “joint heirs” with Christ.
We can never become like Christ - we can strive to be like Him, but we simply cannot be joint-heirs - Like many of the LDS have said on here, Christ was the ONLY perfect one. Now you say that we are Mary “worshippers” and wrong because we ask for her intercession and for the intercession of the Saints - but it’s okay for you to believe that one day we can, ourselves be joint-heirs?

I’m really searching for an honest answer here.

It seems like LDS is bashing Catholicism things we believe in, but yet we are wrong to question the beliefs of the LDS. If it’s good for the goose, it’s good for the gander.

We all have the same god. You can ask your questions on the mormonapologet site if you wish…🙂
We do not worship the same god.

I am coming back to Christianity at long last after years of paganism. I will tell you this, since you Mormons place such a strong emphasis on feelings: the God of the Christians and Jews makes a specific mark on those who look to Him. It’s a feeling, a way of knowing, a gift. The Mormon god is not the same god, and the Mormon “holy ghost” is not the same as the Holy Spirit of Christianity. How can it be, when Mormons deny the very nature of God? As someone (not me) said, “There is a spirit in Mormon temples, but it is not the Holy Spirit.”

RebeccaJ is not a true Catholic. She is one among many Mormon apostates who have chosen Catholicism as a platform from which to attack Mormonism. They no more believe in Catholicism than they believe in Mormonism.

I’m not angry or bitter. 🙂

Catholics, are you angry or bitter?

“completely misinformed”. Well, I’m not misinformed. I don’t know thing one about the LDS faith. I know they made good commercials. I know they ring my doorbell.

There are a few seemingly angry LDS members here who don’t like Catholicism. I don’t think that’s a fair sampling of all LDS people, though. 🙂
