It had been 16 yrs since my last confession, and I had put off confessing each time, believing that if I am truly sorry then God will forgive without me going to the Sacrament of Reconcilliation. But as time went by I kept sinning more and hating myself afterwards and then that hatred would cause me to do physical harm to myself.

Whilst I knew deep down that God forgives those that seek His forgivnes, I was always afraid of the Priest being shocked of my sins and yelling for me to leave.

I had attempted previously to confess, but either backed out due to nervousness or the pathetic excuse of not disturbing the Priest.

Today I said to myself that I need to confess to God and be granted absolution, so I went down to the Church and there were a couple of people sitting there, so I was not sure if they were completing their pennance or waiting to enter the confessional.

So I decided to kneel in the pews in front of the High Altar and wait and see if they were going in or leaving; eventuly one left and I knew then that they had been waiting to confess, so I moved and sat down in line for the confessional. My heat was pounding as though I had run a marathon and nervous was not the word; the last person came out of confession and I knew it was my time.

“In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”

“Bless me father for I have sinned, it has been 16yrs since my last confession”

My heart was racing and I was breathless but I confessed all my sinns that I could remember and the Priest gave me good counsel and absolved me of my sinns.

WOW what a feeling, I am back in God’s good book and the Devil is squirming because he lost the battle.

So anyone who feels to ashamed to confess or thinks that the Priest will look at them differently or somehow thinks that their confession will be discusses to a third person, then stop.

Confess all and be absolved and be happy in knowing that God does love you, no matter what.

After all God loves a repentant sinner.

that sound you hear that sounds like New Years Eve on Times Square, Mardi Gras and the Superbowl victory celebration is the sound of heaven at earth rejoicing, as we do more for one sinner who repents than for the 99 righteous sheep.

Falcon,
Thanks for sharing your experience and your journey towards the sacrament of reconcilliation.
I’m glad for you . I believe like Puzzleannie that Angels were rejoicing for you .

Thank you Falcon for sharing your faith with all of us. God bless you and keep on going to confession even if you have little tiny sins - as you mentioned the more you postponed to go to confessions, the more sins you committed; then, it is also true, the more we go to confession regularly, the more gracious God gives us to avoid the sins we committed and other sins.

God bless you!

Amen! I like the way you put it. 😃

Thank you for sharing this, people do get too nervous about going back. Your story is very inspriational. 🙂

Thanks for sharing, Falcon.

That feeling you get after Confession… God’s Grace! It feels so good!

And like you said, for anyone reading this thread who’s nervous about confessing (no matter how long it’s been), you won’t shock the priest. He’s already heard it all. We are all, more or less, boring sinners. We all do basically the same things and are embarrassed about the same sins.

Just as we shouldn’t let embarrassment keep us away from the doctor’s office when something is wrong with our body, so we shouldn’t let embarrassment keep us away from Confession when something is wrong with our soul.

Cleansed in God’s Grace… a “squeaky clean” soul… what a wonderful feeling!

Hooray for Falcon!!!

I too stayed away for a long time and I absolutely agree…there is NOTHING like hearing those words of absolution to take the weight off of your soul.
😃

Thanks for sharing your beautiful story! It reminds me of the time I went back to confession after many years. What a joyful day! I consider it my second birthday.

Yaaaaaaaaaay Falcon!:extrahappy: Way to go! Congrats!

I know the feeling… I hadn’t gone for 10 years. And during that time, completely fell away from practice of the Faith. Through God’s Grace… I’m HOME… and now I go at least once a month, to Confession.

I think the devil loves to scare us… by trying to make us think that Confession is horrible.

Oh, how wrong he is. There is no way to describe the feeling you have, as you leave the Confessional with a freshly washed soul! Eh? The way to fight “fear” of Confession… is to go frequently! And remember… you are in the loving embrace of Jesus… each time you go. 🙂

Hooray and congratulations to you! What a burden is lifted (I understand - confession terrifies me, too, and I just went through something similar.)

There is no better feeling, I think than hearing the words of absolution.

God bless!

Falcon, did you go to your own parish priest, or to a different church where the confessor would be less likely to know you?
