Finding a Parish in Oregon

I will be in Oregon this weekend, around Astoria and Portland. Can somebody recommend good parish(es) in the area?
 
All the parishes in Western Oregon (west of the peak of the Cascades) are in the Archdiocese of Portland. Their web site has a list of parishes by city: archdpdx.org/parishes/cities-list.htm

St. Mary, Star of the Sea, is the only Catholic church in Astoria: stmaryastoria.org/

There are many, many parishes in Portland, including the Cathedral parish. I only know a few of them, but within that there is considerable variety. Where will you be within the city, and what kind of parish did you have in mind?

That’s a really nice parish, staffed by the Dominicans.

FYI…the church is also about a 5 minute walk to the north from the convention center stop on the Portland light rail MAX line.
 
I found out we will be staying in Wilsonvile. So we will attend St. Cyril. Maybe I’ll check out Holy Rosary if there’s time, or perhaps the next time I’m in that area.

I’d say Holy Rosary is worth the 25 minute drive from Wilsonville. Just head north on I-5 until you get to downtown Portland. Follow I-5 over the river and take the Rose Garden/Weidler Blvd. exit. Turn right and head toward the “Caleroga Terrace” building on your right (turn at the fast food place). Holy Rosary is at the base of it on Clackamas Street.
 
I can’t help you with Oregon but I can tell you what happened to me in Arizona.
I was looking forward to celebrating with my brother and his wife at their local parish in Apache Junction, but sight-seeing plans made it impossible. We were at a motel near the airport in Tucson and asked for a local parish from the desk clerk. We were sent to St. Joseph only to find that Mass had just ended and the next would begin in an hour and a half. We went to the parish office to ask if there was another earlier mass at another parish nearby. Monsignor pulled out the diocesan directory and looked for a few moments and cried “Look, you’re in luck. Frances Cabrini has a mass in a half hour.” He gave us good directions and off we drove. The mass was fervently prayed, with a good homily. We went on our way spiritually refreshed.
Don’t worry so much about things. Put yourself in the hands of God and watch the show. He always comes through for me.

I know this post is a little late now, but I would also recommend Holy Rosary for the next time you’re in Oregon. The 11:00 Mass on Sunday mornings is a mix of English and Latin, has all Gregorian chant, incense, ect. It is very reverent and they also still use the Communion rail at Holy Rosary. Sometimes the even do the old Dominican Rite Latin Mass (very similar to the TLM).

And a nice drive, too!

The next time you’re that far down the Willamette Valley, consider checking out St. Mary Church in Mt. Angel and the Mt. Angel Abbey up on the hill behind it. They’re both quite lovely, and the views from the Abbey are some of the most beautiful in that area.

St. Paul (in the town of St. Paul) is the oldest church building in the Pacific Northwest, and is the original cathedral for the Oregon Territory before the formation of the Archdiocese of Oregon City (now Portland). Everything inside is original from the 1840’s.

The oldest wooden church in the Pacific Northwest is a few miles down the road in St. Louis, Oregon.

If you like good organ music, go to Mount Angel Abbey for the 9:00 Sunday Mass.
