If you cannot believe in God, then do what you would if you did believe.
Even if it feels you are speaking to no one, find a time when you can sit somewhere alone and confess to God all those things in your life that you regret, all the sins you can remember.
Tell God you wish you hadn’t done them.
Tell God that you are sorry. And ask God to forgive you.
Tell God you don’t want to do wrong again and that you will try to do good.
Say to God, if You are there please give me strength to live a life that is good.
Even if you cannot sense God’s presence or even believe in God, you have done well to do this.
Then try to live in kindness to others, in any small or big way you can.
In doing these things you are doing the most you can manage.
What I’m basically telling you is to live as a Christian whether you believe or not, and trust in God whom you do not know to welcome you. I’ve given you some quotes from the bible to guide you how to love God even if you don’t know Him yet, and about loving others.
Faith is a gift of God. Ask God for faith. Even if God doesn’t give you faith, continue to live as above, asking God’s forgiveness for any failures, and trying again and again to live in kindness and respect for others. I will pray for you, because with faith in God and in living with the benefit of the sacraments are gifts of God given to those who believe, and life is more difficult without them. Don’t ever give up seeking God, but if you don’t find Him but you still live a good Christian life, trust in God’s mercy.
Remember in your life the message of God in these words of Jesus, and if you live them, trust in His mercy.
Matthew 25 verses 31-46.
“The Last Judgement”
“When the Son of Man comes in all His glory, escorted by all the angels, then he will take his seat on his throne of glory. All the nations will be assembled before him and he will separate men from one another as the shepherd separates sheep from goats.
He will place the sheep on his right hand and the goats on his left. then the King shall say to those on his right hand**,” Come you whom my Father has blessed, take for your heritage the kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was a stranger and you made me welcome. I was thristy and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you made me welcome; naked and you clothed me; sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me.**
**Then the virtuous will say to him in reply, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you; or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you hungry and feed you; or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and make you welcome; naked and clothe you; sick or in prison and go to see you?
And the King will answer, " I tell you solemnly, in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me."**
Next he will say to those on his left “Go away from me with your curse upon you, to the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels, for when I was hungry you never gave me food; I was thirsty and you never gave me anything to drink; I was a stranger and you never made me welcome, naked and you never clothed me, sick and in prison and you never visited me.”
Then it will be their turn to ask, “Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty; a stranger or naked, sick or in prison, and not come to your help?”
Then he will answer, “I tell you solemnly, in so far as you neglected to do this to one of the least of these, you neglected to do it to me.” And they will go away to eternal punishment, and the virtuous to eternal life."
And since Jesus is the one who will judge all of us, **we can believe His words that our salvation depends upon our charity towards other people, which He regards as charity directly given to Him. **
**Matthew 5:43 “You have heard that it has been said, ‘You shall love your neighbour, and hate your enemy.’ But I say unto you, Love your enemies”
Matthew 19:19, “If you would enter into life, keep the commandments. He said to him, ‘Which?’ Jesus said, ‘You shall do no murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, Honour your father and your mother: and, You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’”
When Jesus was asked, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” he replied, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind’ - this is the great and foremost commandment, and there is a second like it, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself’. The whole Law and Prophets hang on these two commands.” (Mtt 22:37-40, Mrk 12:28-34).
“Anyone who says ‘I love God’, and hates his brother is a liar, since a person who does not love the brother that he can see, cannot love God whom he has never seen.” [1 letter of John 4:20-21]** What this scripture can say to you is that you can love God in dealing rightly with other people if there is no other way you can. But God will not overlook your sincere desire to know Him.
I would suspect that whatever thoughts or feelings which brought you to question your beliefs is God seeking you. I agree with the suggestions of the previous 2 posters as well. Pray, keep your mind and heart open, let God work.
