Finding my calling?

Hello, I have tried for years to find what God has called me to do, to find if I have a talent in anything really. And recently I discovered I had a talent for fashion, and I recently graduated as a fashion designer. But someone (cannot remember who) told me that fashion is evil and that that is not my true calling. If fashion/sewing/making clothes is so evil, why did God give me talent in that area? I have also heard that makeup is sinful, but know of Catholic/Christian makeup artists. I have started to wonder why God made me, and why the talent He gave me will only cause me to sin. I have thought about making reusable menstrual pads, as I try and care for the environment, selling them and donating some the young girls and women in Africa, or starting a catholic clothing line with fashionable, but modest clothing. But now I am just confused.
 
Fashion is not evil. Think about it. Fashion can be very beautiful. It can be what first gets someone to notice someone else. I mean all you need to do is think about what you want the fashion to do. Once you know you want it to do good things you know you are on the right track.

Thank You Trident, this is what I said, but the person told me it was vanity and it was intrinsically evil. That made me feel so bad, it made me feel evil, and even led me to question why would God do this. I kept feeling like fashion was okay, but still had to ask.
 
Hey no problem. And I mean the person who said that to you probably wasn’t wearing sackcloth were they? I mean they probably took some time to decide what they wanted to wear that morning. Something they had bought because it looked good on them right? Well that’s fashion. Fashion can be in good taste or bad, but that’s up to the people involved. We need good fashion designers like we need good bakers and good mechanics. We’re all in this together.

It’s vain to cover oneself?
I would think this scrupulous person would think it was far worse to walk around nekkid.
Ignore them.
Design lovely things or practical things, or functional things. And be happy in your career.
 
They probably thought of what is commonly called fashion rather than your better concept of it.

Look for bits in the New Testament (and even Old) where women and men alike are urged to dress gracefully and becomingly.

The world is short of designers who will help with that.

Muc skimpy “clothing” is cheaper to make because it i smaller. There’s a thought-provoking proble for a thoughtful person interested in the economics of materials.

Your other ideas sound great to me as well (some of which I know nothing about :o.
