Greetings of Peace and Love!Donāt confuse a lay calling with a religious calling. Lay (Secular) Franciscans have no āhabitā as commonly understood. The Tau is their āhabitā.
I was in the SFO for over 10 years. I finally had to leave. Meetings with very little content. Mainly āsocialsā . Very little prayer. The Divine Office is supposed to be encouraged. Only 3 of us prayed it.
I donāt mean to sound bitter, but I love St Francis (and Padre Pio). It hurts me that no fraternity in my area follows the Rule (much).
NB: I speak only for norCal. I know that there are many wonderful fraternities in other areas.
NB2: Another thing that I found distasteful was National assessing the fraternity $50 per professed member (I am not sure of the amount, these days, though). The fraternity was composed of many members who contributed nothing (some because they were poor; some becauseā¦well, I leave it there). National didnāt care if they were contributing zero, we were still assessed $50 per. Really bothered me.
Sorry for the rant, but you asked![]()

Is there any way so that I can obtain a Relic of St. Francis of Assisi?
2nd class will do. It will be use for our public veneration and relic exhibit in our school. I hope you can help me to obtain. I asked some of the custodians here in our town but they donāt have even a third class so that I can barrow to use in the exhibit. thank you and God bless.Catholic Answers prefers you to open new threads instead of reviving old threads.
To answer the question, it depends on the type of relic you want. 1st and 2nd class relics of St. Francis are pretty hard to come by. Most are usually owned by Religious Orders or churches.
3rd class relics are pretty easy to find. Many Catholic stores sell cards that have 3rd class relics of St. Francis. Usually in the form of a prayer card with a small cloth attached to it that was wiped on a 1st class reliquary.
I donāt know whether you can get things via Amazon or not, but a Third Class relic of St. Francis is available here:2nd class will do. As I said before getting a 2nd or 1st class relic is pretty hard to come by. Usually the only people that have them are churches, Religious Orders, or museums (one of my local museums has St. Francisā Bible that he used to define his mission.)
Occasionally you will find sales on things like Ebay, but I would be very leery about that. There are a lot of fakes out there. Also the church itself restricts the buying and selling of relics. You can purchase a relic for the cost of the reliquary, but the value shouldnāt be assessed based on āwhoā is in the reliquary.
My only suggestion would be to approach a local Franciscan friary or church, but the odds of them letting you borrow one is slim. They probably would be willing to let you create a 3rd class relic from their relic if they had one.
