I’ve been watching the PBS show Finding Your Roots with Prof. Henry Louis Gates & it is fascinating. Each episode follows two or three famous people using regular genealogical research and modern DNA analysis.
A lot of folks may find of the show deals with the history slavery, some of the African-Americans on the show were less than African ancestry.
Linda Chavez, who served in the Reagan and Bush 1st administrations had Middle Eastern DNA which means her family were probably “hidden” Jews who moved to the New World to get away from the Inquisition.

Anyway, check it out.

I watch the show as well and find it very informative and interesting.
 
I did the Ancestry DNA and found out I have Jewish ancestry! Trying to find out where that info. came from. Like the Roots show too.

I have known for years that I have Jewish ancestry so that would not really be a surprise to me. My Jewish ancestors were from England Germany Palestine Spainand Eastern Europe. What actually was a surprise on my DNA though was Central American Indian I have always known I’ve had American Indian ancestry but I was really surprised by that one and I was also surprised that I have Asian Indian ancestry since I’m still trying to figure that one out. Remember the DNA test can only test so much and not all your ancestry is going to show up on it. I would if you could avoid using organizations that are affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and you can probably figure out why. I think genealogy is really cool topic but DNA can only get you so far. My sister and I both do genealogy she doesn’t a little bit more thorough than I do and we have found out that a lot of people of European descent have Middle Eastern ancestry
