I left church early to tend a fire by my house, which broke out- did I sin…
I also left to help a screaming person, was tghat right or wrong, both seemed right, but I am still wondering, and authentic non-oppinions to help- the Ask an apologist thread neveranswers me, I think they think I’m trying to trick them 🙂 anway… Marc
 
How did you know a fire broke out while you were at Mass?
Also, did you leave the Mass because you heard someone screaming outside while you were at Mass?
 
I heard screaming in the homily, it was a child in the parking lot- I took them back to their mommy, who had shouted at them…

My cellular phone was on silent, when my non-catholic (hopefully to change one day soon) sister called to say there was a fire, and we must rush back to my house.

Could you have gone to a later Mass somewhere else and failed to? Normally in most Dioceses within a few miles of your home there are many Catholic Masses going on all day and even in the evening on Sunday.
It just seems to me if you were really concerned about the screaming you heard and left that you were not sinning in that case, however, the phone call didn’t seem necessary, or you leaving for that matter unless you are a volunteer fireman or the fire was also threatening your home, I don’t know, seems to me the best place would have been to be at Mass if I wasn’t needed in an emergency of some kind.

I don’t use a cell phone so I guess I would just leave everything in the hands of God as I have my entire life. I am not a volunteer or a Doctor that is needed in any kind of emergency either.

I don’t know that I would have even left the Mass for any reason unless I was convinced that the screaming I heard was a dire emergency, and even then, if it were, I would imagine that I would not have been the only one to hear it and that someone who was more qualified to help would be best to tend to it. I also am hard of hearing, (deaf in one ear), so if I heard it and no one else was leaving, I would probably go simply because it would seem to me that no one really cared. (Because in my case, if I am the only one that hears it then we’re all in trouble.)

It isn’t that I think no one should ever leave Mass for any reason, its just that I think most people ought not to. Doctors I can understand, volunteer firemen, things that are real dire emergencies, emergency management technicians, policemen, emergency on call nurses etc…so in your case, if you were needed to do something that no one else could have done then I don’t think it would be a sin, but I would still check with my Priest and try to go to another Mass.

I also don’t think the experts are ignoring your question, its just that they don’t have time to answer all the questions and your’s is definately strange.

well the thing is, you can’t sin mortally without being aware of it, so instead of asking “was i sinning” you should simply ask, would this be a mortal sin?
because in order for something to be a mortal sin, you have to have full consent to it and know what your doing but do it anyways,

although if you think something might be a mortal sin, you are obligated to find out, otherwise you are sinning by not finding out, because you show that you are willing to greatly offend God by committing what might be a mortal sin.

so by asking about it you did the right thing, but don’t get yourself stressed out about it, because if you didn’t know then it wasn’t mortal, though you should still confess it,

though there are certain things that allow us to miss mass, like taking care of someone sick, or if you’re sick yourself,
and i’m not sure but…i think if your house is on fire, that’s reason enough to miss mass,
but like it was said before me, going to mass later if possible should be done.
 
Something happened to me once, and I was also concerned. My family and I (children all younger than 6) were planning on going to Sunday evening Mass one week. Because of circumstances that I can’t really remember, we missed Mass. So, I did not receive the Eucharist until I went to confession.

The priest told me that while missing Mass is a sin, and it needs to be confessed; my intent was to go to Mass that day. He said that I did not have to not receive the Eucharist, because I did not deliberately miss Mass that Sunday.

So, I would say that you did the right thing to respond to someone in need. But, you do need to go to confession. . .because you did not attend the entire Mass.

Although I would confess it again, and often confess any sort of thing, with reason, I think it fits into the category- if it were rented, I’d be obligated to protect it, if so, then I am also obligated to protect my own belongings to ensure existence, and power under God, so far as is rational, I would think it a serious enough reason, but if there were a mass afterwards, I likely would need to go- it is up to us to determine what a serious cause is, if I now recall the teaching.

Note, any “Serious reason”, which should include my insident, none the less, I advise confessing even if there is reason for excuse, it prevents us understating the problem out of self perception.
