First Baptist elects Jeffress

Just in case after my earlier thread anyone was in suspense over how it turned out:

Coincidentally and unexpectedly, I stood in the sanctuary of 1st Baptist only last night, accompanied by a small group of workmen who were setting up for the big service this morning. It’s an impressive, stately worship space.

I was there to attend a very good performance of “Little Women, the Musical.” I have to say that these are people who are not only serious about worshipping God, but they are actively working to make the world a better place.

So, I prayed there for them, not only that they would come to the fullness of truth, but also to thank our Lord for the faithfulness of these people.
 
I understand he is well respected. Hopefully as the article notes he will invigorate 1st Baptist.

So, if Baptists have the “fullness of truth,” then I presume that Catholics have added “extra stuff” from the Baptist standpoint?

Or, did the Anabaptists take away important things?

How can we know?

If you think that this doesn’t affect you, think again. Dr. Jeffress will lead 1st Baptist. Historically, 1st Baptist has had a significant influence on the Southern Baptist Convention, which in turn has an influence on life in the U.S.

If we believe Dr. Jeffress, it would appear that God himself has played a role here:

“After the vote, [Dr. Jeffress] told the congregation about an experience he said he’d never shared with anyone, including his wife, Amy. He said that one night as a Baylor University student, he was walking down the street and had a direct communication from God.
‘God said to me, ‘One day you will be the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas.’ … Whatever happens, I know I am in the center of God’s will.’”

Assuming it really was God (not saying it wasn’t), that does not mean God wanted him to STAY there. God doesn’t will that anyone be outside the Church he established.

Spurgoen was refering to baptism, it was his was of saying that the Bible does not teach that we are saved by being baptized but by the blood of Jesus Christ

Well, I learned something! So, how did Baptists acquire your name if you believe that baptism is not necessary for salvation?

I’ve been thinking more about this. I know a bit about Dr. Jeffress’ seminary, and would have trained him to be very suspicious of a direct revelation like what he claimed to have had. I say this because, as the article states, he kept it to himself for years, and I’m surprised that he even shared it at all.

So, I believe him.

Where, then, does that leave us papists? Specifically, the home team here believes emphatically that God does not want division in his Church (cf Jn 17:20,1 Cor 10:17, Eph 4:6, for a start).

Yet, we have evidence that God prepared a shepherd for this congregation of separated brethren. Now, if God already spoke to Dr. Jeffress about being pastor of 1st Baptist, why didn’t God also tell him to swim the Tiber?

I can think of reasons, but I wonder what others think…

Do Baptists believe the Lord when He said, “This is My body”? No.

Do Baptists have an unbroken line of ministry going back to Jesus and the Apostles? No.,

Do Baptists believe the Bible when it says “Baptism doth now save us”? No.

Do Baptists have the whole Bible? No; they have a Bible full of holes (in the OT).

Therefore, for these and other reasons, Baptists do NOT have the fulness of truth.

because God wanted him to be pastor of 1st Baptist, it;s as simple as that!
