Hello all,

I just have to ask.

Turnabout is coming up at my school. (For those of you who don’t know what that is, here’s an explination: Homecoming, but reversed. The girl asks the guy.)

As with any dance, there arises the problem with the first come, first serve policy. You ask first, you get the date. Otherwise, you’re out of luck.

Now, here’s my situation:

I’m in a relationship (my first one, actually), so I’m pretty much 100% sure my gf is going to ask me.

But what if she’s not the first? How do I kindly turn down other proposals? (If I get any others)

I know how the first, come first serve basis can hurt people. A girl pulled that on me earlier in the year. I didn’t have a clue that anything was set up, so I asked. And got turned down.

But that’s a story for another time.

Any ideas/suggestions (especially from the ladies, but anyone will do!)

Thank you in advance,
coolduude

Simply say that you’d love to go with her but that you’re already going with your girlfriend.

What we knew in my day as “Sadie Hawkins Day” from the “Lil Abner” comic strip. Yeah, I’m old, you’ve probably never even heard of Lil Abner.🙂

Cooldude, there is a simple solution. Make sure your girlfriend asks first. Tell her you don’t want to be asked by anyone else first if she wants to invite you. Or do as kevinsgirl says.

Well, I’ll suggest what you shouldn’t do… You shouldn’t live by that “First Come, First Serve” rule. You should simply and politely turn down any and all offers that aren’t made by your current gf. If in the end, your gf doesn’t ask you, you simply don’t go to the dance. Anything less may cause a problem in the relationship. WAIT on you gf… they like that. DON’T accept a substitute for her simply because she wasn’t fast enough in asking. God bless.

“Hi Susy, it’s coolduude, we’re going to that dance together right?”

“Of course we are, silly”

What am I missing here? Is there some sort of magical fairy that checks on who cheated the ‘who asks who’ system?

You’re missing the question.

I asked for a nice way to turn down other people.

“Thanks for asking, but I’m already going with Mary Beth.”

Or…

“No way. Not with you. Never in a million years. I’d rather die first.”

You decide.😃

Wanted to add that my 17 year old was asked to his school’s “girl ask guy” dance by a girl he absolutely did not want to go with. Being the nice boy that he is, he politely turned her down, saying he had plans to go see a theater show with his grandparents that night (his grandparents do take him to shows, so that was the first thing that popped into his head as an excuse).

About a week later, a girl he had hoped would ask him did ask him. However, being the nice boy he is, he also turned her down for the dance, because he figured if he showed up with the second girl, the first girl would be hurt. Instead, the second girl and he skipped the dance and went ice skating instead.

Be nice! Manners will take you far in life!

Well, Catholic90, at least your son doesn’t have to worry about the magical fairy who checks on the “who-asks-who” system getting after him. 😃

Sorry…I’m easily amused. 😛 😃
