First Commandment and ghost shows

I read in GoodConfession.com that “engaging in superstition or divinization, involving oneself in the occult” is against the First Commandment. I get that of course, but I have been watching Ghost Adventures, Ghost Hunters, etc. strictly for entertainment purposes. I still believe all the teachings of the Catholic Church. My question is: is simply watching shows like these a sin? Is watching these shows engaging in a near occasion of sin when I don’t in any way adhere to the views of the presenters?
 
I just fail to see how watching people try to do divination is a harmless entertainment. That is my personal opinion.
 
Simply watching it? No. Participating in it? Yes.

I like horror movies like The Conjuring, Paranormal Activity, and they do things like what you are describing in those movies. The big difference is that I’m not actually playing with Ouija boards or doing it myself, and I know it’s just entertainment.

This question has recently popped up in other venues…
which in turn - in the manner also presented as being oh so harmless,
and is it a sin? - casts a light of suspicion upon the questioners…
almost as if they’re not Christians…

We choose our own programming. If you subject yourself to subject matter that is sinful in nature, you will eventually lose your sense of probity.
We gave up all television programs in favour of listening to the Sensus fidelium channel on youtube. I feel at peace with my current programming.
 
As an optimistic note, since ‘contempt-ed’ devils/ghosts can have the powers what the shows tries to showcase, a honest mind can perhaps eventually arrive at how superior is true God.

I would stay away from those shows. While we should never be scrupulous, paranoid, or excessively worried, I think that watching shows with that kind of content needs to be avoided.

When faced with a question like this, I often think of Ed and Lorraine Warren - both Catholics in good standing, paranormal investigators and in their time, the only un-ordained demonologists recognized by the Church. Perhaps such content ought not be broadcast for public entertainment as it deals with the truth of tormented souls who, perhaps as purgatory, are left to wander here for a time.

Most of those shows are fakery. I’ve watched a whole bunch and only occasionally saw something unexplainable. YouTube had much better compilations after you sort through the clickbait.
 
I agree, but for me, a big part of the fun for me is the fakery. I actually don’t like it when it gets too scary and seems too real. 😬
 
I agree. We can learn so much more by reading the lives of the saints, and spiritually enriching books.

probity – new word in my lexicon

We gave up TV programming for decades .

That afforded us tonnnnes of more time to be doers rather than - spectators of the who knows what?
