My DD was so funny. She was sure she was going to hate the taste of the wine (blood). We practiced at home and she liked it! I finally had to cut her off from practice - lol!

In our parish, they had the children practice with actual hosts and wine. They needed the children to taste the wine first because they discovered that some children would spit the wine back if they weren’t prepared!

I don’t think it matters where you purchased the wafers. It is only practice.

Is it common for First Communion to be distributed under both Species? .
it is actually prefered for 1st communion. Even in my day (long before V2) this was one occasion where communicants could receive under both species, another being a nuptial Mass (bride and groom only).

He did. He gagged every time until that day at Church. The DRE told our pastor and he gave him only a small piece to consume at his First Communion.
it is important to establish this for this very reason

These all great answers. But my question is that I’m thinking about using communion wafer that they sell at this Protestant store. Would using those wafers be taking part in another communion and sin?
no you are not taking part in a communion service of another sect, you are merely consuming a piece of dry bread. Were you to “practice” by attending a Protestant church and taking part in their service, yes that would be wrong.

Hi, my little cousin is having first communion classes 😃 Since I’m one of the youngest members on the family. He looks up to me, him being younger than me. But I’m also a very devout Catholic for my age so I need to ask question.

My family wants me, him, and his sister to practice the whole first communion ceremony. I’m the Priest (go figure 🤷), for the wine we’re using grape juice or cranberry juice (since it tastes like the wine) and pouring it in to a wine glass. But here’s my question.

I know a Protestant store that sell communion wafers (somewhat like this). Should we use those? Or will that be a mortal sin? Isn’t not during a service, so wouldn’t really be “taking part in their communion”. But should we? If not I’ll find something else.
There will be practice during first communion.

No it is not. Its just bread at this point and it not involved in any ritual.

There lies the problem, he’s terribly shy. :sad_yes:
If you are practicing because he is shy, the hosts do not matter. If he is shy, getting dressed up and walking up the aisle for all to see and receiving Communion from a stranger will be the difficult part. It is awesome you are playing the role of the priest (I always got to to that too) but to help with his shyness, you need to see if priest will rehearse with him.

No, it’s no problem at all.

The fact that the wafers just happen to come from a Protestant store is just a coincidence. It doesn’t mean that you’re participating in their services in any way.

Off topic, but . . .

We didn’t have Ambesol (a -caine family for cutting teeth) around when my firstborn unexpectedly cut another round of teeth.

She was uncomfrtable enough that my wife finally told me to “go ahead” with the brandy on the gum.

I wet my finger with brandy, and started rubbing it in.

smack smack smile

She liked it.

Oh no you don’t, I said, and swapped the brandy for tequila.

🙂
