Hi every one, I am new to the forum

I’m desperate to know if I have sinned and what to do. I am baptized in the catholic church and since I was a child I have been going to mass, celebrate jesus birth in December, and celebrate easter and all soul and saints day…

However my mother never encouraged me to do my first communion or to be confirmed. After a while during my teenager years I stoped going to mass. I never received the Eucharist since I never did my first communion but recently I started going to mass on Sundays, and praying more and directing myself to God so the last couple of weeks I went to mass and, asking God if I could receive Holy communion in my thoughts, I did it, and I have been doing it. But I fell I’m lying and committing a mortal sin. Can anyone tell him, and what can I do? can I confess my sins, even though I’m only baptizes?

Please reply soon, and be sure, I don’t want to be more guilty and confused.

What do you mean "in your thoughts?’ Are you actually receiving communion, or do you mean you receive a spiritual communion? Those who are not able to receive the Body and Blood of our Lord into their bodies are allowed to receive a spiritual communion. One would simply pray and invite Jesus to come and nourish them spiritualy. If, however, you are actually receiving along with everyone else at mass, you need to stop and talk to your priest. Everything can be forgiven, and your priest will get you on the right track. You need to get involved in an RCIA class to receive the proper teaching that will allow you to receive the rest of your sacraments.

First, get ahold of your parish priest (wherever you are going, don’t worry if you are not registered), and tell him of your background. He can help you to prepare for your (first?) Sacrament of Reconciliation (used to be called Confession, or Sacrament of Penance), and then your first Communion.

Don’t stop going to Mass! Don’t stop praying! God loves you, and wants you to be joined mor fully with Him!

The priest should be very happy to help you. If he is not, see another priest right away!

Since you were not raised in the Catholic Faith and did not know what was required as far as Mass attendence and preparation for Communion and Confirmation, your not guilty of any Mortal sins. However at this point you need to make an appointment with the pastor and explain your situation. He will guide you in what needs to be done for you to make your First Confession, receive Communion and be Confirmed.

Don’t go to Communion again until you speak with him.

Go to Mass but do not receive the eucurist. Speak to your priest. You obviously enjoy going to Mass, you’ll enjoy it much more once you go through RCIA and understand what it is all about.

Peace and God Bless You.

Read the beautiful story of St. Bernadette or see the movie. She was behind in her religious studies and others laughed at her, but Our Lady chose to appear to someone that did not know what the Immaculate Conception ment. You sound very sincere. You can get caught up quicker than you think.

May God bless you,
Deacon Tony SFO
