God willing this will be my first Mass after quarantine.
I need to go to Confession since it’s been a while now, and I have a little problem: in my country churches opened two weeks ago, so actually I could have gone to Mass last week and the week before but I didn’t attend because my mom has high risk of getting covid because of her serious health issues and I thought it wasn’t safe to go since it’s a closed place and I also wasn’t comfortable with the sign of peace, taking Eucharist from the priest hand…tbh I don’t think God would have let me get covid but I felt I needed to protect my mom. However, in the last few weeks in my area there aren’t apparently cases of covid, the danger is low and I’m starting to live my life normally again so today I’m going to Mass.
now: I honestly don’t feel bad about not going those two Sundays to church…I know it’s an obligation to attend Mass so I think I must confess I didn’t go to church since they were open but how do I deal with not feeling bad about it? Does the confession still count if I don’t feel guilty?

I’m not in any position of particular authority, but no, you don’t have to feel guilt. Sorrow and a decision to change, but there are lots of factors you may consider.
  • is the dispensation from attending Mass still in effect for your Diocese? As we have reopened the Mass to the public, he has also explained the dispensation for those in situations similar to yourself.
  • the decision to not attend out of a real concern for your health or that of another may be a prudent action and not sinful. You know what’s in your heart.
  • you do not have to participate in the “sign of peace”. I would be surprised if that has even been allowed with the need for proper hygiene and distancing practices.
  • you can go to Mass without receiving the Holy Eucharist. That fulfills your obligation. There have been times and places where this has not been available to all.

In your country is state of grace required to attend mass, or just received the Eucharist?

If that is not an issue To attend mass, do so and abstain from receiving until after confession.

And, if since the quarantine you feel you have not entered into mortal sin, attend mass and receive.

Remember, mortal sin, in addition to grave matter, requires full knowledge and willful consent.

Hoping you find peace

If you stayed away from church because you are worried about the health of your family member, that’s a valid reason to miss Sunday mass. In fact, most dioceses are stating that the dispensation from the Sunday Mass obligation remains in effect for everyone in that situation as well as everyone who is ill or at risk of becoming ill themselves. And to be honest, if everybody who normally attends Mass came to Mass, there wouldn’t be room for everyone since the churches in many places are only allowed to open at a percentage of their normal capacity, or have a numerical limit on how many people are allowed at a Mass.

Ask your confessor if it was truly a sin to miss Mass due to your concern for your mom. I’m betting he will say it’s not a sin and you’re dispensed.

… I need to go to Confession since it’s been a while now …
Catechism of the Catholic Church
1452 When it arises from a love by which God is loved above all else, contrition is called “perfect” (contrition of charity). Such contrition remits venial sins; it also obtains forgiveness of mortal sins if it includes the firm resolution to have recourse to sacramental confession as soon as possible.51

tbh I don’t think God would have let me get covid but I felt I needed to protect my mom.
This is not how viral contagion happens, the accidents of bread and wine are not endowed with special powers. They can transmit illness.
