First confession in 20 years

I think the longest confession I’ve ever had was 10 minutes then again I was baptized as an adult (21) so that might explain that one. God bless you.

I was in your position a few years ago. I hadn’t been to confession in over 30 years. I was scared and nervous beyond belief. I examined my conscience for about 2 weeks and wrote down all my sins. If you cannot remember the exact number of times for some sins, that’s OK. Just tell the priest “numerous times” or “a lot”. He will understand because you haven’t been to confession in a long time.

I’m telling you right now…Yes, you are scared and nervous but when you complete your confession, you will feel so good and feel the love and mercy of God. It is an absolutely wondering feeling.

I actually started to cry during my confession but when I completed it, my priest told me it was a “great confession”.

There is nothing quite like hearing those words of absolution.

You will be fine, trust me.

Best 4 hours I’ve had in 20 years! I still can’t believe how patient, loving and helpful he was! He even walked with me through my penance step by step. I was terrified he was going to freak out on me but he was great. He even cracked a joke to ease my stress. Never thought I would laugh during confession.

This is exactly WHY Jesus established the sacrament of reconciliation. To reconcile you back to Him. You did it the way He wants it done. You listened and responded. Way to go 👍
 
Think what it means! You are a new babe in the Lord, all pink and fresh! I go to Confession monthly, but I especially feel GREAT going to Confession and Communion on Divine Mercy Sunday when everything is wiped away and the slate wiped clean. I love the “go get pizza” because I indeed feel like getting a big birth-day treat on that day!
Really, we have a good God who loves us!
