I was in your shoes about 4years ago, except I had been out of the confessional a long, long time. I made a big list, and for the ones I couldn’t quite remember, I used the phrase “a lot”! Just search your soul using the exam of conscience. Pray about it, and then just do it! After I got through it, the Priest said, “that was a good confession” not like he was surprised or shocked but that it was sincere and thorough. Trust me, afterwards you will feel free and you will be able to grow closer to our Lord.

About your question, you don’t need to give too much detail or exact numbers.
Let’s say you viewed tentacle porn 714 times and masturbated each time.
You could just say “viewing pornographic material very many, perhaps hundreds, of times, and impurely abusing myself all those times.”
Or let’s say you did impure acts involving a dog and peanut butter 44 times, you can say “impure abusive acts involving a creature of God several dozen times.”
Or you are prone to road rage but have no idea how many times you flicked the bird to fellow travelers, you can say “getting angry while driving many times, and some of those many times making obscene gestures.”
Sins must be confessed in the Roman Rite by kind and approximate number. The kind is more important than the number - be specific enough so the priest knows what the sin is, but don’t worry about gory details - if he needs more, he’ll interrupt and ask.
And the main reason we confess the number is for the priest so he can better counsel you and see which sin you are committing most, as well as assign an appropriate penance. It’s not because God doesn’t remember the exact number of times you sinned - which is why saying “very often, many times, hundreds of times, etc” is acceptable.

Come on TOC, he’s not going to be interested in exactly how many times I stole other than the gravity and whether it was once or twice, a fair amount, a lot, it was my career.
Who remembers after many years.
But we remember relative frequency and the ones that we were particularly nasty or depraved.
Its not simply a bank account in the red with too many debit transactions that must be counted.
Its the total amount of money owing that’s most significant.
It not so much the number but the size and relative frequency of the biggies I think.

Examining my conscience has been hard (I’ve even remembered horrible sins I commited more than one decade ago) but has also been a great experience to see how Merciful God is and how He loves us despite our sins.

That is so interesting that you said this- I was in line for confession on Wednesday, holding my rosary and asking for courage and for it to be a good confession and to not forget anything when suddenly a grave sin I had totally forgot about hit me like a wall. There was nothing around me that would have reminded me of this, I had probably blocked it out of my head. I started to get scared to confess it but after a moment of holding my rosary I knew I had to do it. I think Mary and the Holy Spirit were with me in that moment.
Bring a rosary! Pray a lot before hand and especially while you are waiting so you don’t chicken out and you will be okay. Just think of how good you will feel afterwards.

You need to specify what type of sin it was, not all the particular details. It’s advisable to mention aggravating circumstances, but this is not required if they do not change the species of the sin.
You are required to say how many times you committed a sin, but an estimate is sufficient. It is also sufficient to say how often a sin was committed and for how long.
