Hi Everyone,
Its time for me to be scheduling my first confession. The Rica team is going to split the group up into 2 groups to do their confessions. Im sooo nervous and somewhat scared but more nervous than anything! I am totally clueless as to how to confess we did watch a mocked confession session but im still kinda lost as to what to do and what not to do. And how many sins are you supposed to confess?
Any Good Advice??
Thanks
Rose

Confession can be nerve racking! Just remember God is waiting mercifully for you in the confessional.
First things first, you need to do an examination of consciousness. I would get a piece of paper and write down any mortal sins you might have and the number of times you committed them. (you can say once a week, several times a month, etc) Just remember to burn the paper because after confession they won’t exist anymore! This is a good guide. http://m.ncregister.com/info/confession_guide_for_adults#.WcKSjctOkwg
You can write down venial sins, too, but I don’t think you have to. Venial sins are remitted through communion. However, it would be a good practice to say those, too.
You can use a guide through confession on what to say. I’m assuming you probably have one. If not, they’re online for you to print off.

God bless

The first time you go to confession can be nerve wracking so know that you’re in good company. As misstherese said, start by examining your conscience so you are aware of your sins. Beyond that, the priest will know it’s your first time and will help guide you through things.

Remember that this isn’t a test. It’s a chance to experiencd God’s mercy and love.

Here is another resource. The first page is about God’s Gift of Forgiveness, and the second page is a How-To guide.

Guide to Confession

I am praying for you, that the Holy Spirit assist and guide you always on your faith journey.

I am excited for you. My experience was the same. I thought to myself many things, 44 years of stuff., I hoped the priest packed a lunch as we are going to be here for awhile, how was I going to word things so I didn’t sound horrible beyond redemption, etc. when I shut the door, and sat in front of the Priest, something came over me and it ALL spilled out. I can’t wait for you to experience the peace and joy I did when the priest pronounces absolution. You are in my prayers. Welcome home.

Just in case you google for examples of how to confess. Don’t be misled by missthereses’s mistyping - the term is ‘an examination of conscience’, not of ‘consciousness’ - that can probably be taken for granted.😄

I was in second grade when I made my first confession. Try to imagine how nervous I was. We had a practice session a few days before and I froze in the pew. When it came time for the real thing I was afraid yet when I got into the confessional this calm came over me.The priest guided me and I remember leaving the confessional feeling good. It was something that always remained with me. You will do just fine. Relax go through all the steps and remember that God is in their with you. Will say a prayer for you.

Whoops. I guess that’s what happens when you reply on your phone 🤣
