I have embraced Jesus and my Catholic faith and have so much lost time to make up for.

I went to confession today- I haven’t done this since about 1993- I felt Amazing afterwards like a huge burden was off my shoulder

Im wondering, I had this done at a Franciscan church, and confessed to a friar in monk attire… would it still be considered a proper Catholic confession?

I never realized confession could make me feel so renewed!
👍

welcome back:)

Yes - be assured the Franciscans are Catholic:thumbsup:

And he wasn’t in his “monk attire” but his “habit” as a Franciscan Friar. So he would have been a “proper” priest etc.👍👍

I stand corrected, thanks!

I just want to say Welcome Home!! :extrahappy:
You made the angels sing today. 😃

Hi, I’ve never actually done FIRST confession and I’m not sure of the procedure. I’m in my 40’s and my upbringing was full of moving around from one country to another and so I was constantly in and out of schools. I was mostly in Catholic schools, but there was a time for 3 years where I was in a non-catholic school and I think that must have been when First Confession was done in the catholic school and I missed it.

I’ve never been taught about it or shown what to do, etc. I don’t know how to use a rosary. I would like to do my First Confession… but I don’t know how or where I start?

Can anyone help me out with this? Give me some insight. Do I just go to my Catholic Church and tell them and they will help me?

thanks

Woohoo, that’s AWESOME! Multiply your joy by infinity, and that will equal the rejoicing in Heaven today because you have come back to God. 🙂

Call your local Catholic Church. They should have an RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) program. If you have not been baptized, you can find out how to get baptized, and go from there.

As for the Rosary, CLICK HERE to go to a free, online, interactive Rosary. The first tab shows you how to pray the Rosary. Click “Pray The Rosary” then “start” and it will guide you through with an audio of the prayers.

I had the same concern, but the Friar helped me along so I had no problems. I’m sure your church will be equally helpful

Wasn’t really correcting you - just making sure you felt sure that it had all been proper.😉

When dealing with sins and confession you don’t want to have any lingering doubts that everything hadn’t been done properly.

:extrahappy: Hooray!!! Congratulations!!!

Just think of how excited the father was when his prodigal son returned. He saw him in the field from afar, and physically ran out to him with his arms wide open, full of excitement and joy. And then he threw a party! I mean, a big, massive party with the fatted calf and the neighbors and everybody. And just think: this is our Father does each and every time we return to Him! When I hear of someone returning to the Church and being cleansed through Reconciliation, I can’t help but imagine a huge party going on in Heaven. It makes me want to dance.

Thanks so much for this response! I will definitely look at that rosary link and contact my Catholic Church. Yes, I was baptized as a baby… so I’m alright there! It’s just Confession that I missed. Thanks again! 🙂

AMEN! What a wonderful story! The angels in heaven are rejoicing!

Welcome back!! It always renews me too. I was away from the Church for awhile and know of what you speak. However remember we are all just on the way. The Sacrament is meant to be attended regularly ( I try to go to confession every 2 months unless I really mess up). I think of it as a good scrubbing of the soul, especially if I take the time to do a good examination of conscience.

I am so amazed by some of my friends who I went to Catholic school with for 12 years. They no longer go to the Sacrament and rarely go to Church. I have done that, but they speak so negatively about Confession.

I love what Fulton Sheen said about the Sacrament. He observed something about the move away from Confession and the move to Self Improvement Books and Going to Therapy. Although I believe there can be a real need to seek the service of a Psychologist or MD for areas of our life, Nothing compares to allowing God to heal our wounds. Also nothing compares to admitting our errors (sins) and making a real resolution to change our lives with God’s help.

And every time I fall, I remember how eager Jesus is to extend His mercy to me.

Praise the Lord

Ann

It is amazing even if we stray and wander off, when we come back. Jesus will still be here is he still loves us!!!
I was terrified he would hate me after so many years of no faith

We can leave Jesus, but he never leaves us

You need to speak to your local Parish Priest. If you haven’t been properly prepared for your first sacrament of reconciliation you will need to go through the proper procedure. I presume you haven’t done your First Holy Communion, and that you also haven’t been confirmed? Call on your local parish Priest and explain your situation to him. You may have to enter the RCIA program.

Don’t delay, go knock on his door, or speak to him after Mass.

Hi, actually YES I have done First Holy Communion as well as Confirmation. The only one I missed was Confession.

How could you have done First Holy Communion without having done the Sacrament of Penance?
