We are looking for a song to have our first dance to that is Biblically based or includes scripture in the lyrics…Something similar sounding to Set Me as a Seal by Matt Maher (which we can’t use for certain reasons).

Any suggestions? Most of what I’ve found has the very flute-y sound and is not quite the style being sought.

“Arise My Love” by Michael Card, or “Love Never Fails” by Brandon Heath.

I did a little bit more listening, and I was incorrect–the songs I prefer to stay away from are the ones featuring organ. Flute/light sounds would be fine.

Show Me Your Ways by Hillsong is in 3/4 (waltz) time

Could be sung as Show Us Your Ways, if you have a live band. It isn’t the Bible set to music, but the sentiment is what I would think you’re looking for. That could be very nice.

Another possibility is “Make Us a Prayer” by Rita Springer

*Make me a prayer, let my prayers be a cry
Humble my heart so that you may draw nigh
Cause me to stand and cry out for this land
Cause me to be one who’s set free
To stand, as a house of prayer

Make us a prayer, let our prayers be a cry
Humble our hearts so that you may draw nigh
Cause us to stand and cry out for this land
Cause us to be a people set free
Who stand as a house of prayer*

When you narrow the selection down, try to dance to your selections before you make a final choice. You’re going to find some have a tempo and emotion that suits the two of you better than others.

If you have your heart set on a song from the Bible, I’d find the 5-6 passages you’d find the most appropriate and see if they have been set to appropriate music or inspired songs that would work for you. I think that will be easier that running through all the hymns you can find set to the right meter to see if they sound like your first dance as a married couple.

It is more up-tempo than is usual for a first dance, but “As for Me and My House” by Ron Kenoly is a possible choice for some point, perhaps as the first up-tempo piece after the slow dances that usually start things off.

First thing that comes to mind is anything by Greg and Lizzy… they make beautiful songs with TOB/Song of Songs/Biblical lyrics… similar duet-style as the Matt Maher song.
