First date ideas

Our first date that I can recall was after we’d been courting for half of a year, so we knew eachother pretty well, I’d say.

We both like ice cream (especially her), and she is lactose intolerant (and I might be), so we went to a place that has ice cream that has no milk in it. It tasted like ice cream, and we both were healthy afterwords.👍

I do not know if this helps, but have fun.

odd woman out here:

dinner can be a big stressor-- where to go? what to wear? what to order? how to eat it? possibly too much romance-- candles, starlight etc.

pack a picnic lunch. go to an outdoor concert, something at a city park where you can stroll around.
or a picnic lunch and geoaching (my absolute new addiction) or a picnic lunch and a museum. something where you can sit a little, walk around a little, where there’s a low-personal investment attraction or event that will spark conversation. but something that you personally won’t feel too foreign doing.

casual clothes. and lots of chatting.

ask the local deli to fix the food for you and you’re magic. gals like guys who can picnic well.

btw, how old are you?
I second that. 😉

Make it a public place, without too much pressure, with a lot of neutral ground around, with room to take a stroll and talk, and opportunities for nicely spending time if you feel you need to make the meeting longer. Have it be natural. Or well, if you really think it’s a big test and you need to impress her and win her favour… you could do just that, but only if it were natural to you. In short, do what’s natural to you, but take her into consideration.

Find a nice sports bar or something. Make sure it’s clean, not trashy or too obnoxious or anything. You can go there, shoot a couple games of pool, maybe throw some darts, order a pizza and just keep it on the side or something.

Dating is a little hypothetical since my last “first dates” were in the late 60s and early 70s. My daughters would rule out dinner as too much too soon too stressful but lunch would fine. Since you’re 20 and a student, I assume you are in college. Are there some college events you could do? Is there some new exhibet in some museum? Though I haven’t been to Philly in a while, Manyunk has some nice lunch places and it is always fun to walk around and visit the shops. You and your date could learn a lot about each other as you browse. Ditto South Street.

other ideas: Lunch and a duck ride throught the central city. An afternoon at Longwood gardens. Kite flying.

I’d have to go with the ‘full dinner’ thing as being a little heavy for the first date, but absolutely with the ‘capture the imagination!’ cadre full on!

If you are even considering a date, hopefully you already have some knowledge of what you have in common (or you aren’t at ‘date point’ just yet…although very likely at the ‘let’s get a coffee’ point for sure). Might consider something a little new to both of you - like, if you’re making the larger part of the plan, perhaps a museum neither of you have been to, but at least you are curious about. She may very well surprise both of you with the fascination, and the conversations therefrom!

May sound trite, dorky, weird, or whatever, but you’ll learn lots about yourselves and each other, even if neither of you dig the museum, and then you can go hit up a good deli, have a sandwich and stuff and laugh…and hey, if the stamina’s holding up, going out and just dancing like goofs is wonderful too. I know that’s tough at age 20 maybe, but it sure lets out the tension and reminds you that there’s nothing to be ashamed of in being yourselves.

If already a little tuckered out, hey, just say - this was cool, what do YOU wanna check out? There’s a whole big world out there, even in a small town, and there’s always cowtippin’ and damslidin’. 😉

No latenight fishing though. In my experience, hanging out with rotten liver, and jar of maggots, warm beer, and a dude who isn’t talking on a foggy muddy lake = uh, nope, not a good time. Just sayin’.

Plus, if you avoid that little faux pas, then the ‘full dinner, even with candles and stuff’ becomes a whole lot more appealing!

Take her on an easy 1 to 3 mile hike on a loop trail and finish with a picnic lunch you packed. Take your time and see and listen…
