I posted this in the Ask an Apologist forum, but I’ll post it here also. Maybe someone can help.
Hi!
Is it licit for an adult baptized Christian to receive first Eucharist (and subsequent communions) before confirmation? As far as I’m aware this would be without the consent of the bishop for my specific case.
How can I receive Eucharist without confirmation in light of Cat.-1322 [The holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord’s own sacrifice by means of the Eucharist.] Also, Code of Cannon Law 920.
We had a change in pastors. The previous wanted me confirmed ASAP at a daily mass or outside of mass (had partial RCIA last year. I went to first confession, but the paperwork with the bishop had complications and this fell through). The current wants me to “be received into the Church” (not confirmed) and have first communion, then be confirmed at Easter. Both priests knew I am competent in Catholic theology and am certain of this conversion.
I feel pretty certain anything will be licit with the consent of the bishop, so should I plead with the priest to get his approval first?
Thanks for any assistance, and God bless your ministry!
