We had a few threads back when this happened in March close to the Feast of Gregory the Great with the first ever Anglican Evensong being sung in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.

The audio from that Evensong has been released by BBC3 and is available to listen to here (sadly no video)…

Anglican Archbishop David Moxon, director of the Anglican center in Rome, presided at the 3 pm service, with music sung by the Choir of Merton College, Oxford. Archbishop Arthur Roche, Vatican Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, preached a homily. The date was chosen due to the significance of Gregory having dispatched Augustine of Canterbury to England.

I’m listening to it now. If I close my eyes, I’m in Oxford. How very, very beautiful.

I know I’ve said it before, but Evensong is one of the things Anglicans do best.

Yeah we’ve got the Selwyn College Choir from Cambridge coming to my parish next month to sing both a concert and then Evensong. I can’t wait 😃

It’s that time of year when all the choirs go on tour. How fortunate you are to hear Selwyn College. I’m a bit envious.

One of my greatest joys, though, was attending Evensong at King’s College, Cambridge. They are one of the best choirs in the world.
