It is not regularly scheduled, but it the next will possibly be on Trinity Sunday.

Get your friends to attend! :-p

I’m jealous, that church is sooo beautiful…

Today is a new day in the Shreveport Diocese. We had our first EF High Mass last night, complete with all of the propers and ordinaries for the 2nd Sunday of Easter led by our Schola Cantorum. Fifty people were in attendance last night.

God be praised!

deSalingAway, I saw where you folks got a new bishop today…

Tis one beautiful Church, what’s the name and do you have more pics you can post?

Having spent some time in this Diocese, You must SURELY have A new Bishop. No? God be praised for this extraordinary double Blessing! A new Bishop and the EF!

Is this the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans?

It is the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans.

A new bishop elect was announced yesterday, Msgr. Michael Duca from Dallas. He is the rector at Holy Trinity Seminary in Irving and the director of vocations for the diocese.

Does anyone know anything about him?

WOW !

The old high altar is almost identical to the one at my old parish in Detroit - Assumption Grotto. Beautiful !

I believe the people’s altar was originally part of the high altar. Otherwise it would have been physically impossible to use the high altar without another surface. The tabernacle juts out even with the vertical face of the altar.

Hello Shreveport from Baton Rouge! You’ve got more than we’ve got. We’ve got the choir and the priest but not the permission. The MP was “acknowledged” down here.

If I do recall, the priest does not need the bishop’s permission to celebrate the Extraordinary Form of the Mass. The permission was granted by Pope Benedict XVI.

Am I missing something?

I could only see the central stained glass window - of the crucifixion. What is depicted in the other windows above the altar? Also, who are the saints depicted on each side of the altar?

The stained glass windows above the altar are the 5 sorrowful mysteries with the Crucifixion in the middle.

The Saint in the middle is St. John Berchmans, stage right is St. Joseph, stage right is St. Ignatius Loyola.

Yes. It is called diocesan politics. When the Bishop issues a one paragraph statement merely “acknowledging” the MP and follows it two weeks later by a scathing editorial by the diocesan chancellor saying we have an indult low Mass and don’t need anything more…in bureaucratese, this is called the “chilling effect”. We have choir; we have priest; I can sing or I can serve. All I ask is one Solemn High Mass a month. Still hasn’t happened.

beautiful church! i forget what that wall thing is called…

Beautiful church! Where exactly is Shreveport?
Shreveport is my wife’s place of birth & have been there many times, last time was well over 40 yrs ago.
I can’t remember the miles from Marshall, TX, but Shreveport is due East of there.
Hope this helped.

Wow, I’ve run into two posters from Shreveport today on here. What a blessing to finally meet nearby folks (other than BR!).

So I take it Father Peter celebrated the EF mass? After the moto proprio was announced, I looked and looked on St John’s website but got discouraged after seeing one note from Fr. Peter saying he doubted there would be a big desire for the old form. I never checked back in, though. I’m glad things have changed!

So you think you’ll have another one soon??? I can’t wait! I’ve only been to St. John’s twice. Once was to receive the oil of the catechumens for our parish. Quite an honor for me since I was going through RCIA!
