I have been making the ‘First Friday’ Mass devotions since January this year. With this Friday being Good Friday and not the normal Mass being held I’m assuming this breaks the number of consecutive First Fridays?
You know, I was just thinking about this recently. I’m curious to hear the answer.I have been making the ‘First Friday’ Mass devotions since January this year. With this Friday being Good Friday and not the normal Mass being held I’m assuming this breaks the number of consecutive First Fridays?
i wonder how many like me didn’t realise their is no mass on holy saturday, after 6pm is then the vigil massThe first Saturday for the month of April is Holy Saturday. Mass and Holy Communion are not possible this day. Those making the Five First Saturdays can offer their Easter communion in reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
As I recall the requirement is to receive communion. It is not required that one attend a mass. Back in the 40’s many places would give communion before mass on the First Friday for those who had to get to work and could not stay for the whole mass.I’m pretty sure that the Good Friday service fufills the First Friday devotion.
unlike any other saturday, the vigil mass can not be considered a saturday mass because there is no mass that day, mass can not happen on easter sat prior to 6pm and that is soley the easter sunday mass.As I recall the requirement is to receive communion. It is not required that one attend a mass. Back in the 40’s many places would give communion before mass on the First Friday for those who had to get to work and could not stay for the whole mass.
At that time there was no communion on Good Friday. Many were frustrated when they had to start over because they forgot to look ahead to see the problem when they started.
When they started giving communion on Good Friday, they moved the Easter Vigil to midnight and messed up the First Saturdays for some. It was good when they moved the Vigil back into the evening. As I understand the First Saturdays it is any mass and communion on Saturday; it doesn’t have to be the Saturday morning mass.
