Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Fridays have a special meaning for many of us as Catholic Christians because of Good Friday, primarily, but also because of the devotions that have been part of our lives. I remember as a student in Catholic School going to Church every Friday to pray as a group (Grades 4 through 8) with one of our parish priests presiding, “The 14 Stations of the Cross”. From about the second grade, after I had received my First Holy Communion I remember making the 9 First Fridays – getting up very early to go to Mass before school with my older Cousin.

Memories like that are indelible in my mind. I hope there are still children being raised in their Faith with a devotional life that draws them closer to God and keeps them seeking to love Him more. We do not hear too much about Reparation or the First Friday and First Saturday devotions in Catholic Churches today, but there are some (older folks like me, perhaps?) who remember and continue to offer little sacrifices with great love on Fridays for the Sacred Heart of Jesus and on Saturdays for love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

If you are unable to participate at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and receive Holy Communion tomorrow, perhaps you can ask Jesus to come into your heart in Spiritual Communion, and pray the Morning Offering: “O Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you all my prayers, works, joys and sufferings in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass being offered somewhere in the world today, in reparation for my sins and the sins of the whole world.”

Thank you MariaChristi. I try to never miss a First Friday.
Good for you, tawny! Let us continue to offer him our whole hearts, souls, minds and strength every day; but especially on the First Friday as He requested. His Heart receives so little in return for His burning love for us!

MariaChrist, would you please tell us more about First Fridays and First Saturdays? I know very little about them. Thank you!
