Hi all,
I’ve got question here regarding the First Friday aka Sacred Heart Devotion.

This month, the priest where I attended the First Friday devotion did something different. For the Litany of the Sacred Heart, he asked us to give praise to God silently instead of the normal;

“…Heart of Jesus…
Have mercy on us”

He explained that Litany means to give thanks and praise to God, so it could be done in any ways.

I just want to ensure that it is valid. thanks. 🙂

I don’t think valid or invalid applies here. It isn’t a sacrament. Nonetheless, it sounds like another attempt to “improve” what doesn’t need improving.

Yes, I was thinking about that too, but I couldn’t find a better word as I was in a hurry. May be ‘appropriate’ is a better word to replace valid. So, is this appropriate?

I really don’t know as I’ve only attended 4 times and I had 4 different ways of doing it. :confused:

Don’t hear as much about First Fridays as we once did. Wonder why. In my old parish, our verrry Irish pastor emphasized First Fridays, and provided Confessions of Eves of First Fridays as well as several hours on Saturdays and eves of Holy Days. Maybe we are all more holy now and don’t need so much time for Confessions:D :rolleyes: .

Yea, right…😉

As long as you have an opportunity to receive Mass on First Fridays, that is the important thing.

Extra prayers in addition to Mass are wonderful, but variations in those extra prayers will not remove any blessing God has for you.

First Fridays are great and I go just as often as I can (and try to keep a streak going).

God bless you vince2paul and keep on with it.

Thanks! God bless you too and Merry Christmas in advance! 🙂
