CONCORD, New Hampshire, November 11, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Bishop V. Gene Robinson, the first openly homosexual bishop of the U.S. Episcopal Church, has announced his retirement after seven years leading his New Hampshire diocese due to the strain of the controversy that has consumed the Anglican Communion following his election.

The U.S. Episcopal Church consecrated Robinson in 2003 over the objections of traditional members of the Anglican Communion, who said that consecrating an active homosexual man as bishop was a clear repudiation of the Scriptural foundations of the church and Christianity."

I have never understood the practice of some users to post news stories with no coment.

How is this a social justice issue?

Can he convert to Catholicism and become a priest? We have lots of gay bishops, would we accept him?

Peace

^ I thought he had previously come out for gay “marriage.” I would think that his moral positions are still in conflict with that of the Catholic Church. I know he believes that it’s groovy to have a gay lover, so I don’t know how he could be considered an appropriate appointment, assuming he would both want such an appointment and be willing to publicly repudiate his former public statememnts which contradict Catholic moral theology.
Robinson met his partner, Mark Andrew, while on vacation in St. Croix. Andrew was on vacation and worked in Washington, D.C., at the national office of the Peace Corps. On July 2, 1988, Robinson and Andrew moved into a new house and had it blessed by Bishop Douglas Theuner, an event which they considered to be the formal recognition of their life together

This post is disgusting and you should be ashamed. You have bad mouthed all bishops with no evidence at all.

I will pray for you.

Did I bad mouth the gay bishops or the non-gay bishops ? You mentioned all bishops, and calling them non-gay , I assume is not bad mouthing them, so are you really implying that all bishops are gay ? There may be a lot of gay bishops, but to say they all are gay is really a stretch.

That’s not what he’s saying. This is the comment he was referring to:

It’s an inappropriately general statement (“lots of gay bishops”). Is there a single current Catholic practicing bishop who has declared himself “gay”? I doubt it. Catholic bishops (as opposed to some other religions) generally do not “come out” as “gay” unless they are leaving the practice of Catholicism (and thus their position as well). There was a recent case about a year or so ago. Every clergymember knows that to be actively practicing any kind of sexual behavior, including that of homosexualiy, is forbidden by his office, not to mention that homosexual behavior is forbidden by the faith itself.

I personally don’t know even of Catholic bishops holding current office who have declared themselves publicly even to have SSA. Do you? Because if you don’t, your statement is an insinuation without basis, which is what I believe ByzCath was referring to. It borders on calumny, therefore.

By contrast, the subject of the thread indeed declared himself “gay” (i.e., practicing his SSA, actively). That’s why I referenced the article, which merely noted that he had made public statements to that effect, and that his live-in partner was also publicly shared knowledge. (So nothing defamatory there.)

maybe this man has finally realized the damage he has done…

Now, the right thing to do, would be to apologize to the MILLIONS of people he has scandalized. Because, in reality, it was the laymen who suffered the most during this. To have their community turn into a laughing stock and a joke because of this man.

, not to mention becoming celebate and shunning his homosexual lifestyle/actions. Because, in reality, it was the laymen who suffered the most during this. To have their community turn into a laughing stock and a joke because of this man.

Good! Gene Robinson doesn’t even believe in the resurrection of Jesus! How can he possibly be a good Bishop then? He is a heretic. Maybe someone more orthodox will take his place! 👍
