First Holy Communion on Mother's Day

I wasn’t aware Mother’s Day had been added to the liturgical calendar.
Exactly. In my way of thinking, first communion should easily trump Mom’s Day, (or dad’s day for that matter.)
It should be exciting to be able to say one received first communion on Ascension Sunday, it doesn’t happen very often after all. I’m sure the homily giver could tie the 2 together very nicely and give the youngsters an added boost by saying what a special day to receive their first communion.

Sadly, it will most likely be a contest to tie all 3 together and recognize each one, at the expense of the other 2…
That is really sad for the kids. As all too frequent in today’s society, it is they who get short changed and marginalized.
 
I liked the tradition in my previous parish, where FHC was on the first Sunday in May and the May crowning was on Mother’s Day, and all the children who had made FHC were encouraged to wear their FHC clothes again for the crowning. Close, but separate events.
