Two months to the day since the fire that destroyed the roof and spire, Mass celebrated for the first time at Notre-Dame de Paris, by Archbishop Aupetit.

Due to the damage, very few people were allowed to be present and those who were had to wear hard hats for the duration. Fortunately for rest of us, the Mass was broadcast live by French Catholic channel KTO.

Video lasts 59 minutes and 46 seconds. Perhaps obviously, the Mass is in French. Some views of the current state of the interior are also shown.

Praise Jesus and thank you to God and Our Lady for making this happen after only 2 months. Best thing I’ve read all day ❤️

The dedication of Notre-Dame is celebrated each year on June 16th. Clearly, it was very important to His Excellency that the Mass for the occasion be held in the cathedral itself. :+1:t3:

I was very moved as I watched it.

The Archbishop actually celebrated most of the Mass versus populum, but the side chapel only has an old altar so at certain times during the Liturgy of the Eucharist he had no choice but to turn ad orientem.

In the main sanctuary, where the altar isn’t up against a wall, Mass is celebrated versus populum.
