abb:
Like I said, this was my first Mass, but I have a pretty good understanding of it from the “The Mass Explained” CD someone suggested I get from the Mary Foundation.
Oh, that’s very good that you have a CD from the Mary foundation and have basically been taught what the Mass is.
The reason I asked for more clarification is that most of us have been in protestant churches also and we have noticed a distinct difference from catholic churches.
In my experience, most protestants focus their attention on the minister or preacher who reads some passages of Scripture. He then goes on to give a sermon regarding those passages and afterward (or before) the congregation worships by singing, and sometimes praying.
In the Catholic Church, we will “celebrate” the Last Supper again. So as I’ve been taught, it is just not another re-enactment of the Last Supper but — Christ is actually present at the time of consecration – when the priest blesses the Body and Blood (looks like unleavened bread and wine).
As Catholics we believe that the bread and wine
actually becomes the real Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, though the elements used retain their visual and taste effects.
The reason Catholics kneel or bow their heads is out of total reverence for receiving Christ himself not just spiritually,
but physically, too!
It seems absolutely awesome, doesn’t it?
The fact that Jesus Christ not only became a human being and a little baby upon this earth,
became a man, but now
centuries after His death and resurrection, He has come to us through the auspices of bread and wine.
He has come to us physically, as Food for our souls!
Amazing, absolutely Amazing!
Please go to the RCIA classes and seriously consider becoming a Catholic, so that soon, you too will be able to receive the Body and Blood of Christ – and so have Living Waters within you!
