As Catholics we believe that St. Peter was the first Pope, leader of the Church after Christ’s crucifixion. St Peter was raised in the Jewish Tradition. St Paul focused his evangelization towards the Gentiles.

So my question is, who would be traditionally considered to be the first Pope decended from Gentile ancestors?

Both of St Peter’s immediate successors, Sts Linus and Cletus/Anacletus (there is some debate as to which can be considered the first ‘successor of Peter’) were pagan Italians - Linus being Tuscan and Cletus Roman. So they both would count as being Gentiles and having Gentile ancestry. 🤷
