Not to nitpick but Jesse didn’t make that claim, either, only that every church claims to be led by the Holy Spirit–not that they all claim to be infallibly led.
Can you have one without the other? Is the Holy Spirit gonna lead us astray sometimes? Or is the protestant church only led by the Holy Spirit sometimes?

If you are led by the Spirit, you have to be infallible. That’s just basic philosophy.

And that’s the odd thing about Protestants claims to being ā€œled by the Holy Spirit.ā€ They do mean sometimes not infallibilly, although they’d never put it that way. It really can’t be both, but that’s what they think they can have. It’s a blind spot they can’t seem to acknowledge. 🤷

Thanks again everyone for your help. I read those links you all recommended and I found them very helpful.

I have more links for youā€¦šŸ˜ƒ
Whether or not the reformation was justified, it happened and here we are now. I grew up being taught that the holy spirit was with the reformation.

First I apologize if this thread is not in the right spot. I have a few questions that I need the answers to and I hope I can be led to them. For starters I’m protestant but have been studying up on catholicism for about two years now off and on. My background is typical of many protestants. Grew up on a protestant family, attended many different churches, heard the usual warnings about the catholic faith etc…I started this research into catholicism two years ago when I got frustrated with not being able to find a church I can grow spiritually with. I am frustrated on how churches in general are not standing up for God’s laws and how they are compromising their own faith to appease society. Anyway to keep this fairly short, I have done enough research to know that most if not all the protestant claims against the church are not true. My questions have to do with authority and what Christ meant when he spoke of the church.
  1. If there was one church Christ established did this church have authority to decide what was God’s will even though I was taught we sometimes don’t know God’s will.
  2. Did Christ mean church as a group of believers united in him when he said he would build his church on Peter or was it a physical structure? I heard both sides to this quesion and I know protestants believe in the invisible church etc…I heard protestant pasters say that yes they disagree on issues with other churches but that’s not a big deal. They say as long as you accept Christ that’s all that matters the rest is all theological debates and that God won’t hold it against us.
Anyway sorry again if I posted this in the wrong place but those questions have been bothering me. I do feel God is with me in this as I quest for answers and I have been praying for guidance. God bless!
Take a look at the internal links in #34 . Your questions are good, .they obviously will take alot more than one post to adequately answer them. šŸ˜‰

Yeah, they really don’t know what they mean. If you think about it, protestants think that everyone is infallible EXCEPT the Pope.

So true, and so sad because they don’t know they believe that by their claims to sola scriptura. They truly believe that the Bible, and all aspects of the faith, are crystal clear to them because they are ā€œled by the Holy Spiritā€ even though they cannot agree amonst themselves on basic things like baptism. 🤷 They have an experience of Christ, which they believe trumps all. At least they have something, but they are denying themselves all they could have while putting themselves in danger of depriving themselves of what they do have. 😦

Let me extend the warmest welcome to CF. Yes, this is the right spot.

Certainly we must begin this quest for His Truth with prayer and study.
I think the following may help in Discerning the Church which Christ founded, this is the Church to which He gave Authority until He returns at the end of Time.

There are a few things we know about this True church:
  1. It was built by Jesus Christ himself (Matt 16:18) which means that the ā€œtrue churchā€ must be about 2000 years old. That in itself eliminates the vast majority of churches and denominations today.
  2. Jesus only built ONE church (Matt 16:18).
  3. His Church is the God-ordained upholder, protector and defender of the truth (1 Tim 3:15).
  4. His church is the fullness of Christ (Eph 1:22-23) which means that it is also the fullness of truth (John 14:6).
  5. The Church which Jesus Christ founded is the one to whom He revealed and who declared and decreed which books are to be contained in the New Testament.
  6. Jesus handed His Authority to His Apostles (Mat 28:16-20), therefore His Church must be able to trace it’s chief pastors back in a line of succession to The Apostles.
Please think about this and pray about it. We’ll be praying for you too.

God Bless and guide you on your Faith journey.

Your brother in Christ.

It’s funny how I never used to question how the various churches I attended got their start. I just understood that they used biblical authority to establish their own branch. It just seems that nobody pays attention to that aspect, rather they are more concerned with the social factor or the preacher himself. Again it’s like chemistry, if it clicks for you then you stick. After reading the history of the one church Jesus established I am shocked that I never noticed how different the churches I attended were from what was clearly established in the bible. Its eye opening.

It goes even farther than that. They aren’t legitimate in the first place who build those organizations. And for clarification, they aren’t churches to begin with. They have no authority to start a Church. And going back to the apostles, Paul clearly condemned those who divide from the one true Church, as were those who followed them. (note Paul’s letter to the Church of Rome, and his letter to the Corinthians #34 )** Note also, **There is no expiration date to that warning or that condemnation. Yes that means Luther, Henry VIII, Calvin, Smyth, etc etc etc are condemned in scripture. As far as down to our day and beyond, those people outside the Catholic Church need to be informed about their heresy and division and the consequences that follow once they know.

Therefore,

WHEN a person knows they’ve been following what is wrong, they need to change immediately. They need to be in full union with the only Church Our Lord established…the Catholic Church. Knowledge illuminates what is good and also what is wrong. And we need to always be in what is good.
