I am catholic and married for 27 years with 2 children. My wife and I were married 8 years before we even had our first fight. I was not as attentive as I should have been (married at age 21) and when we had a first problem it had stewed inside her for so long that she wanted me out. I left , but before the night was over she came to my parents home where i was staying and asked me to come back. Shortly after that she had a brief affair. I have tryed very hard to be more in tune to her over the years, but about once a year she decides we dont have anything in common and the marraige was a mistake. My mother died of colon cancer in 2004 and during that time I sought comfort with another woman. I confessed this to my wife as the guilt consumed me. I now suffer from chronic depression and have little joy in life. She tells me how hard it is to live with someone who has depression, and seldom offers any encouragement. I live in fear of being alone. I am trying very hard to reclaim my relationship with God, but feel like I have no way to repair this relationship or to be happy at all on my own. I appreciate your prayers and support.

You indeed have my prayers and my support.

I know you didn’t ask for any advice, but l suggest going to confession if not already. Make things right with God, and then you can go to work on your relationship. Y’all have been married a long time, it will be worth the effort.

If other topics come to mind, use the search button here, good chance it has been discussed before. Good luck.

I pray that the Lord’s comfort reaches you. I also pray that Confession may help you fully accept that love and start anew.

Do not underestimate the Lord’s abilities in your life, or the resources the church offers.

I appreciate all advice, prayers and support of any kind. I did in fact go to confession just this morning,. I still however have a long road ahead of me. Thank you all.

I’m so sorry for your pain. But you sound like you also might be in the right place to start making some positive changes in your life. Catholic counseling might really help you. Here’s a site that might help: www.catholictherapists.com

May the peace of Christ be with you.
