First prayer

I am a lapsed Catholic, been a long time…

anyway even tho I had a Catholic education from 1st grade through highschool we were never taught to pray-I dont even remember the Bible being read…

I read on a website that a good first prayer is ‘Lord I believe help my unbelief’ (which i liked) but when i went to a bible website the exact quote was

the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

so the father was praying for the child? anyway i just would like a simple prayer to try to reconnect to God and see if he is around

Pray Like This:
Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On Earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.

My best advice to you. As a previously lapsed Catholic myself.
Go to church to pray. In my coming back to Church the Eucharist in the tabernacle really brought me back. It sung to me, called me to pray at church even though I didn’t know it was His Body Blood Soul and Divinity that was calling me and brought me back.
Pray at Church, in front of Him, and after a while make your way to mass if you haven’t yet.
And make a good confession soon! I can’t tell you how much time I wasted when I waited around to do it to fully receive Him as the Eucharist.
Trust me! Confession, and prayer in front of Him as the Eucharist, and all will come in time. Have faith.

tabernacle is usually Gold colored box they keep the extra Communion Hosts, previously simply wafers. This is sometimes in old churches behind the altar, or to the side, in our church it is in a chapel to the side. If it is closed you will know that the Eucharist is inside by the candles above that are lit, if they aren’t, He isn’t within, commonly. Also the candles beside are lit if the Eucharist is exposed.

Snowpea - He IS around and He cares deeply for you; and like a loving Father he waits at the gate looking out, hoping to see you come back home.

The “Our Father” is a great prayer. Let me give you one more, it is from Scripture. Print this out and read it in front of the Tabernacle or at adoration in front of the Blessed Sacrament:
Then he said, "A man had two sons, and the younger son said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of your estate that should come to me.’ So the father divided the property between them.

After a few days, the younger son collected all his belongings and set off to a distant country where he squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation. LOL I LOVE NY accents-esp ones from brooklyn and the bronx
