First responder priests!

My wife convinced me to go to a u pick farm to pick strawberries with out kids today. Afterward we were just going for a drive in the country and went to the little town about 20 miles away from our city that has an SSPX chapel. We do not attend and would not until regularization happens. After we were done on the old country highways we jumped back on the interstate and there was a horrific accident a little ways away. Life flight was there, and traffic was stopped on both sides for an extensive period of time. People were out of their cars and as we rolled to a stop in our place in line we all started to pray for those involved. We could see fire trucks and a helicopter but not much else. After a time traffic on our side was allowed to proceed. As we went past we saw a young man on a stretcher and he seemed to be alive. But then we saw a powerful scene. By the stretcher, right there with the EMTs were two young priests. Walking and praying next to the man who was hurt. In our neck of the woods you generally do not see a priest with his collar on but these two young men had cassocks. They LOOKED like priests. It was moving, and powerful. These priests were the closest to the area in a very agricultural area. I knew that the prayers of my children and these two men would help the situation in the best way possible. With all the negativity these days, it left me with the refreshing feeling that that was the way things should always be. If there is an accident a priest may be the most important thing you could have respond. And while accidents are horrible and I dont know what the reality of the situation was or if everyone will be ok or not. I felt at peace and maybe even a little joyous that whatever the situation, things were in the hands of the best medical and spiritual people you could have.

I agree. Signs like the one you experienced enhance our faith even when reading a report of such and event such as yours. It was also heartening to hear how you and your family prayed. Seeing flashing lights of emergency vehicles and/or hearing sirens are always a trigger to say a prayer. We live quite near a cemetery, so funeral processions also!

I know i’m not meant to do this but cba to wait for my question to get admitted but why wont the catholic church ordain women priests?

Well this is off topic. Why dont you do a search on this. Surely it has been discussed here.

On topic I think: Has anyone watched Band of Brothers, that series about WWII in Europe? There is one scene where there are shells being dropped on a town and everyone dived for cover. A priest is seen giving the Last Sacrament (in those days) to a fallen soldier in the middle of the square. A comment is made on his bravery which is above and beyond the norm. Very brief scene, but so significant.
 
Yes - great story. It’s good to know that our clergy is still doing what they do best.
 
This is nice… I think we need say a prayer for vocations 🙂
