First Saturday - of January and of 2016, today!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

If anyone is unfamiliar with the Five First Saturdays devotion, I hope you will learn more about the desires of Jesus for devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, revealed to Sister Lucia of Fatima, and approved by the Church. In her book, " ‘Calls’ – from the Message of Fatima" (the last book before her death) Sister begins Chapter 11 with these words:
Jesus wants…to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart

Some of us may not be able to participate in Holy Mass and Holy Communion on First Saturdays, but I think most of us are able to pray the Rosary, and spend at least 15 minutes “keeping our Mother company” pondering the Mysteries of Jesus’ life, with her. Love finds a way to offer reparation for all the insults hurled against Jesus and Mary. Let us use our time better in 2016 than we may have used time in the past. This is the Year of Mercy, let us learn from our Mother of Mercy to be a people of Mercy.

Mary, Mother of Mercy pray for us.
Jesus, Meek and Humble of Heart, make our hearts like Yours.
Come Holy Spirit fill the hearts of Your Faithful, kindle in us the Fire of Your Love.

In Australia, Jan 1 fell on a First Friday. Being the Jubilee of Mercy, this is quite fitting. And being Australia, this is even more fitting.

Holy Communion is a requirement, but the Holy Mass is good to attend but it is not a requirement of the Five First Saturdays.

Yes, I was blessed also in the realization that the First Day of 2016 was a “First Friday” as well as a Feast of Mary in the USA, during this Jubilee Year of Mercy. Why do you think it is even more fitting in Australia?

Yes, I can understand especially for those sick or unable to participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, it would not be a requirement. However, if a person can participate in both it would be preferable, it seems to me. 🙂

Oops… For some strange reason I was thinking it was a First Saturday in the US. I’m not sure what was going through my mind haha.

I think it is fitting for Australia, because, to quote a visiter from America: “I thought our churches were bad.” This is a generalisation; but it reflects the general state of the Church in Australia, unfortunately.

Dear littlesouls2,

Thanks for your reply. It is fitting for all of us because the whole world is suffering a crisis of faith. The Good News, however. is that God is Faithful and this Year of Mercy gives us the opportunity to pray not only for ourselves but for others. We need to pray especially through Mary. Today is the great Feast of the Epiphany. The Feast in which we learn of the Magi guided by a the light of a star to “see the Child with His Mother” That phrase “with His Mother” is significant. We simply cannot do without Mary.

Popes have given Mary the title “Star of the New Evangelization”. May we shine with the light of Christ as Mary did on this earth. May we lead others to Christ with her. Jesus told His disciples:
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Mt. 5:16]

Amen! The idea that we have to pray through Mary is a very significant one. A French nun was once praying to the Sacred Heart, and it seemed to release flames of love that ascended higher and higher. When this humble Sister prayed through Our Lady, the flames ascended higher still!

Thanks again, for your own love of Jesus and Mary, and your efforts to build up the Body of Christ, through Mary in His Love. (cf Eph 4: 15-16)
