Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Among the most touching words I’ve ever read were words spoken during an Apparition of Jesus and Mary to Sister Lucia:
Lucia was a postulant in the Convent of St. Dorothy in Pontevedra, Spain when she had the apparition of our Blessed Mother. She was standing over a cloud of light with the Child Jesus at her side. The Blessed Virgin put one hand on Lucia’s shoulder, while her other hand sustained her Immaculate Heart that was surrounded with thorns. The Child Jesus said: "Have compassion on the Heart of your Blessed Mother. It is surrounded with thorns that ungrateful men pierce each moment, and there is no one that is willing to offer an act of reparation to take the thorns away."

Our Lady immediately said to Lucia: "Look, my daughter. My Heart is surrounded with thorns that ungrateful men pierce unceasingly with their blasphemies and ingratitude. You, at least, try to console me and announce that for all those, who for five consecutive first Saturdays, confess, receive Holy Communion, pray the Holy Rosary and accompany me for15 minutes by meditating the mysteries of the Holy Rosary with the intention to do reparation, I promise to assist them at the hour of death with the graces needed for salvation."

Both the words of Jesus and the words of Mary touch my heart because they speak of how we can either pierce the Heart of Mary our Mother, or we can console her. If you are unable to participate in Mass on First Saturday, and/or receive Holy Communion in a a spirit of reparation, hopefully you can pray the Rosary and keep our Mother company for a loving 15 minutes to console her, meditating on the Mysteries. Thank you for your post and link. Third First Saturday tomorrow. I hope I’m doing it correctly. I have the intention to make reparations, but I haven’t specifically announced it at confession.
 
I was also unsure about specifically announcing verbally at confession. Also, if I went today to confession (for it was necessary to be assured of being in a state of grace for First Friday devotion), do I have to confess tomorrow?
 
You don’t have to announce the intention to make reparation out loud in confession. You may tell the Blessed Mother privately either out loud or in mental prayer.

You may go to Confession within a few days before or after the Saturday as long as you are in a state of grace when you receive Communion. I often go on the First Friday or even a preceding weekday if I can find a place offering Confession on the Wednesday or Thursday, so that way I am prepared for Friday and Saturday in advance. The confession lines around here for First Saturday are usually very long and there is always a concern that someone will take a long time in there and then others will not get their chance in the allotted hour, so if I can take care of it earlier on a less busy Confession day, I do.

Last night I went to a late night reparation vigil sponsored by this group, the Alliance of the Two Hearts, at a local parish. They have a special program consisting of confession at 7:30 pm, 10 decades of rosary, the First Friday Mass at 8:15 pm, exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, an office of readings lasting about an hour, a break, more confession time, Benediction, Mass after midnight for First Saturday, more readings, and 10 more decades of rosary. That way you take care of your Confession and both Communion requirements for First Friday and First Saturday and the rosary for First Saturday, plus adoration. The program was supposed to go from 7:30 pm to 1:30 am, it ran till 2:45 am because the priest was a bit late getting there for the Saturday Mass and then said a fairly long Mass given the circumstances. You do not have to stay the whole time, I took a break about 10 pm during the first set of readings and came back so I could do Adoration when the other people went on break or to the Saturday confession (I did the Friday confession). I was having some trouble staying awake by the end but I managed it and we had about 20 people there for the early morning part. It was a nice program. Afterwards I went out and prayed in the church graveyard which was right outside the door for the special Plenary Indulgence. Praying in a graveyard at 3 am under a full moon (Our Lady’s Lamp ) with the wind whistling was an interesting experience.

I understand this Alliance group is offering these vigils in many locations now so look for one in your area if you would like to do an overnight prayer session for reparation and the Poor Souls.

Thanks for your love shown to Our Blessed Mother in beginning your First Saturday Devotion. I gave one link above for info on First Saturday devotion, and another is at: First Saturdays Devotion

I’ve never read that it was necessary to “announce” your intention to make reparation during confession or at any time publicly, but rather that it be our interior disposition. God knows our hearts. 🙂

As Tis_Bearself has already answered, there is no requirement to “announce” your intention to make reparation during confession or to anyone else but rather to make that intention interiorly in prayer to Jesus and Mary. In Chapter 13 of Sister Lucia’s final book, “Calls” From the Message of Fatima, Sister quoted Mary’s words to her: “Jesus wants…to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart”.

If you’ve never read the book, I recommend it to you, and to all who are reading this thread.
Thanks so much for wanting to love our Mother Mary more by consoling her on First Saturdays. Reparation to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary is something we do not hear much about these days, but it seems to me that Jesus and Mary have loved us so very much and have received so little in return!

Thanks for your replies and for sharing your own love for Jesus and Mary. Our Parish also had an all night vigil, this is the second one. The first one was held last year. Many attended and were surprised they were able to stay through the night. It also began with Confessions and Mass on Friday night and ended with Mass early on Saturday morning. I think this may become an annual event.

May the Hearts of Jesus and Mary be loved more by those who have received so much, and may all who have received so much love, give all our love in return to all those God brings into our lives. Whatever we do for the least, we do for Him. How can we say we love God if we do not love one another? Speaking of The Immaculate Heart of Mary, Sister Lucia wrote:
