This sounds really bad but I just started alter serving for Notre Dame. I’m supossed to serve tonight for benediction. I’ve watched it happen before but I’m not quite sure on how to fill or use the thurible and if there is anything else I need to know I would appreciate any info you can give me. It’s a real small benediction so it’s nothing extravagent.

Small world isn’t it 🙂

I just posted a thread on this same subject a couple of days ago. See the thread called “Question on Acolytes and the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.”

Hope it helps!
Dave.

Mike,

Are there any other servers around that can give you some pointers? At the very least perhaps you should get to the sacristy early and practice with an empty thurible and boat.

Try not to worry too much, sometimes the anxiety makes it more difficult.

Go Irish!

Mike,

What dorm do you live in? Is this benediction in a dorm chapel or in the basilica?

I, too, am a Domer!..class of '88 and a proud Sorin College Otter!

Best of luck to you and bless you for your service as an altar server…good for you and Go Irish!

This is benediction in Como. We have daily adoration from 11:00am to 9:00pm. I’m a Carroll Hall Vermin. This is my first time alter serving ever and I’m looking forward to serving Mass for the first time this weekend.

I just served for benediction for the first time last night! Just do whatever the priest and the other servers tell you.
