Hello everyone,

I was looking through my Church Bulletin and I see that this Friday night they will be having an hr. of Nocturnal Adoration but before that they will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament- my question is do I have to be there for both or would I be able to just attend the Nocturnal Adoration? Also I have never been to Nocturnal Adoration and was wondering what happens? As I read it is a time of prayers before the Blessed Sacrament? I just wanted to know what prayers would this be so that I might be able to not be too lost.

Also what is the difference between Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Nocturnal Adoration because of what I read in the bulletin its almost the same thing? or No?

Thank you in advance for your help 🙂

It’s great that you’re participating in Nocturnal Adoration. It’s a powerful devotion.
Basically it is exactly the same as Exposition and Adoration – but it is done at night.
The reason is to worship Jesus – and to answer his words in the Garden “Could you not watch one hour with me?”
The fact that it goes all night requires more sacrifices. It’s a vigil of prayer – offering adoration to God while people are asleep, bringing graces on the world through a special sacrifice and making reparations for the many sins committed at night.

Hmm Actually I’ve never been to an Exposition and Adoration either.😊 (it seems I was more cradle then I thought! lol) As far as the Nocturnal Adoration it says it will only last an hr(in the bulletin).
Do they have communion or just prayers? I really am looking forward to attending and once again thank you for your help.

Hi Ellie – I really don’t know. I’ve never heard of Nocturnal Adoration lasting only one hour. But usually there would be no Communion, just prayers. I’m glad you can attend.

Exposition is just the beginning, when the priest takes the Blessed Sacrament out of the tabernacle and place Jesus in the monstrance (“exposing” Him for all to see).

Adoration is the time of prayer while Jesus is exposed in the monstrance. (Of course, we can also adore Him in the tabernacle at other times.)
