First time getting a job, any advice?

So I’m looking for a job and as a twenty year old who has no job experience, I am looking for advice.

On the one hand, I’m not lloking for a comfortable job in the sense that I don’t intend to sit out of work doing nothing whilst browsing my mobile or anything. No, I want to work and I want to have a taste of actual, humiliating work, away from the sheltered life I used to live.

Thing is, for now, because in two months or so I will be starting school again, I’m looking for one that is preferably manual labour, easily replacable and doesn’t need any experience. At the same time,I am a bit scared and intimidated. I’m scared partly because I’m thinking about what people will think of me even if I do know I shouldn’t be, that manual labour is something I should be proud of if I were to do it. Also, my younger sister is working at a clothes shop (she’s an assistant who arranges things, etc) and she otherwise hates me so part of the feat includes experiencing ridicule from her.

I mostly want a ‘smaller’ job like this in order to pay for some flight expenses. What advice can you guys give to a guy looking for his first time job and how he should act?

Hey there and congratulations on looking forward to get a job.
From my experience (I’m 27), here in Buenos Aires the top first jobs are small stores, Starbucks and callcenters. They are cheap and bad, but will hire anyone and will pummel some Real Life into you.
You should look forward to get a job close to home if possible. Check around for signs on stores requesting help.
My advice is to be open and honest in interviews. Human Resources interviewers are masters in their field and will easily detect if you’re hiding something. Ask about salary last.

I’m sure your sister doesn’t really hate you; it’s such a bad emotion, it’s actually rare in people. As you enter your twenties you will see your perspectives on family slowly change.
