Sinners, even active ones are and should be welcome to Church.

That does not mean we have to check common sense at the door thinking “its Church, no one will do anything here”
Sinners are welcome at my church too… but I have forgotten my bag there for over a week and no one even touched it. There were people there every day of the week too. On Mondays we have a Youth service where most of the kids are coming in with drug abuse issues and worse… still no one bothered my bag left sitting there. I certainly never have to worry about it sitting there just to go up for Communion. Even the worst of sinners who come in show some respect for the fact they are in a church.

Amen!

Couldn’t of said it better myself. I don’t go to Church in fear, I just have common sense now… If I’m going to bring my purse then I need to keep it with me.

I am glad you are in a crime free church. I do hope you are not implying that there is some particular reason yours is and others here have noted that there have been problems. ?

Don’t read things in… I said I thought it was very sad that any church was crime ridden. That said… I’m sure there are many factors that determine weather a particualr place (be it church or otherwise) would have more crime than another.

I think area and location has a lot to do with it…

Some areas are just more prone to people taking things during church services then others… and it’s just not the Catholic Churches in my area… All of them have the same issues.

I agree. My parish is large, and its location is in a large metropolitan area. There is a bus stop right in front of the Church property. Crime, is sadly not the only “problem” I have been aware of at my parish. We also get Pro-Abortion picketers that sometimes bust into Mass screaming at us.
We have also had homosexual rights activists picket. Only one came in and made a scene that required several off duty cops and firefighters to wrestle him to the ground, He was absolutely off his rocker. So, maybe we bring it upon ourselves speaking out against these things so strongly that we get this kind of “attention”.😦

I dont make the laws. I have no idea what they are in your state, but trust me the laws where I live leave it very wide open to include the lamest of reasons to convict someone of a hate crime.

I know someone (indirectly) who got charged with it for using the N word.
I dont want to elaborate, but if you were getting beat up by 3 black youths you may just shout the N word out on accident too.
He was charged with a hate crime.
That is horrible! It’s like the thief that was breaking into an old woman’s house by coming in through the skylight and cut himself on her butcher knife that was sitting on the counter. HE sued HER for the injury. I am not sure of what happened but it is just the point that everybody is suing anyone for anything these days… People are sueing McDonald’s because they got fat eating fast food! Geez…
This, is a hate crime to me. Everyone knows what that symbol means. To take it away is a sign of hate towards it.
I think that you are mistaken that EVERYONE knows what the symbol means. I am sure there are those out there that don’t know what it indicates. Since there was no other damage I think you can hardly classify this as a hate crime. A crime? Yes, but not a hate crime. If the person was trying to make a statement of hate to the Christian Community they would have done more. Like spray painted the car or something to that effect. I am just not convinced that this was not an idiotic kid trying to look cool in front of his/her friends.🤷
What if it had been the star of david?
What do you think would happen then?
What if it had been? You make it sound like everyone is out to get everyone else because of what religion they subscribe to. There are some catholics that think that just because I don’t agree with the catholic way of doing things that I HATE catholocism. And vice versa for some protestants. We are so quick now-a-days to claim that someone hates us for some idiotic thing or another. I say toughen up, turn the other cheek, and get on with your life. Life is to short to think that everyone is out to get you…

Last Christmas I had a magnet "Keep Christ in Christmas sign on my car, drove everywhere and nothing happened, so it could have been lifted anytime. In fact I had people ask me where I got it, the Knights of Columbus were selling them for fund raiser.

I also don’t bring purse into church just because it is a hassel, but I do trust the parish but God doesn’t want us to be foolish or in denial of what can go on and people are all in different walks with God and we shouldn’t put temptation in front of people, but if someone stole my fish, that would be stinky.

Someone stole some dwarf statues out of my yard once and I think because they think that it is stereotyping the people of that sect:shrug: I have thought of putting some religous statues in my back yard as it is fenced.

Last Christmas someone in the city a couple weeks before Christmas went around and stole about 20 baby Jesus from the mangers around and place them all in one persons yard go figure what people will do for a kick.

Well thankfully, our pastor has not shut our doors totally.

You used to be able to get in the main church doors whenever, but due to crime you now have to enter the church via the church office.

The Church Office Manager has to buzz you in… However once you are in you are welcome to go into the Church. Then you just leave via the Church office. (This is so the office manager knows you have left) This means a person Monday-Fridays can only go in if the office is open.

The Main Church doors on Saturdays are pretty much open all day for wedding, confession, and evening Mass. (The doors are locked after evening Mass)

Then on Sundays the Main Church doors are pretty much open all day too. (The doors are locked after Sunday evening Mass)

I HAVE NOT heard of people taking the fish off of cars in my area.
As a matter of fact this is the first I’ve heard of such a thing. Same with people removing bumper stickers. I don’t understand why they would? I just don’t get it…

My Previous church had lots of “off their rocker” people come around too… not picketing… but would come in and interrupt the services.

We had one guy once that came in waving a long wooden cross and kept telling all of us we were going to hell. When the Ushers asked him to stop he started trying to use the cross like a sword. I never heard why he thought we were going to hell.

Not the little old lady’s only! I’ve had my purse stolen while at church. I don’t dare bring it now and if I do I make sure it is with me at all times. (That includes going up for communion)
Yes this is sad but I used to put envelope in the basket and now mail it, because of possible theft and talk of others, well if we do have guests you can’t know what is going to happen. I bring a small purse with only things I really need like a hankie, prayer book and pen to write in prayer book in the front of church, ah that pen near the book is usually gone:rolleyes:

My mother carries a huge purse and I ask her why? I get tired of carrying it for her and it must weigh 10 pounds:p
I carry a debit card which fits in my pocket or leave in the car and the smaller the purse the better.👍
Those debit cards are a godsend ! Dessert

I saw something on the web a while ago that some churches are accepting credit or debit cards for weekly offerings. I do not remember where I saw this.

This was true of the first parish I went to and they were frozen in fear because someone had stollen their tabernacle once and the new priest there was tryiing to thaw them out from their feer. They got the tab back but as soon as mass was done they go around and lock all the doors making me feel unwelcome and like they were kicking people out so they were locked into their fear which is what the devil wants is to make you frozen in fear.
The Church is in a high crime area but no graffitii or broken windows or anything on church property. I couldn’t stay there I felt like they were actually possessd by their fear.

Okay so there was a time that my purse weighed 10 pounds but it also doubled as the diaper bag!

Yeah, what I’ve always carried (when I have it with me) is one of those wallets on a string. Similar to this: target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=sc_ri_2/602-9789058-3422201?ie=UTF8&asin=B000JILU3E

When I carried my 10 lb purse, I just removed the shoulder straps on the wallet and stuck it in the 10 lb purse. Now that I don’t have to carry diapers with me I just use my wallet on string. (aka my purse)

lol my actual purse is smaller than that, I couldn’t find one small enough to suit me so I had one custom made. :o The bag I carry to church though weighs more than ten pounds though… I lead Missionettes and so I always am needing various notebooks and folders and such so I just toss my purse in there with all the rest.

*notices we are far far from the subject of stolen car fish and on to the subject of handbags…

I always wanted one of those car fish but I never got one.

I don’t have one either, but I would like to get one. I have a friend from church who has one that has the Greek letters spelling Jesus’ Name in the center of the fish. I’ll probably ask her where she got it because that’s the one I want.

I’ve noticed that Walmart now is selling Fish symbol, rosary and few other Catholic items.
