I’m a trad and I can not stand the Fisheasters forum. Lots of the website is quite informative but the forum scares me at times. The outright hostility I’ve seen towards Catholics who espouse some non-Church related views is just plain uncharitable in my opinion. For example, even remotely suggest that you support the State of Israel and you’ll be doused in anti-Semitic rhetoric. So website, great. Forum, not so much. I feel like I’ve ventured into Mel Gibson’s personal venting ground when I visit that forum…

where do you want me to start? try reading the discussion forums - links on the front page.

you won’t have to look too far on these sick discussion forums to find extremism and rhetoric against Vatican II, the Novus Ordo, Pope John Paul II, ecumenism, etc.

if this web site didn’t defame the Catholic Church, and I wouldn’t have to be so critical.
The Forums has a big disclaimer that the opinion of some posters does not reflect the views of the site. Just as Catholic Answers Forums has posters whose views do not reflect the views of this site, so does Fisheaters. The site itself does not speak against VC2, the NO, JP2 or ecumenism at all.

AdvanceAlways, thank you for at least seeing the difference between the *website *and the discussion forum. The former is “Fisheaters.com,” an informative website for Catholics who worship in accordance with the 1962 Missal and Calendar used, for ex., by the priests of the FSSP.

The discussion forum is a* discussion* forum and is frequented by all sorts of Catholics, Protestants, pagans, Jews, Muslims, atheists, whoever. Some agree with us two site owners, some disagree. We like most of the people who post there; others are not our cuppa. Some people are smart there; others aren’t. Some are kind; others are brusque. The forum does *not speak for the site unless the post in question is made by me or Quis. To lambaste an entire website because some members of a discussion forum there are not to one’s liking is like saying "Mark Shea (or Jimmy Akin or whoever) is (^&^#Q because someone said something nasty in his com box" or “Catholic Answers is *&^$W^ because I saw a post there I totally hated!” It makes no sense and is rude. But I see that sort of talk all the time. Thanks to Advance again for differentiating between “Fish Eaters” and “some posters at the forum.”

fisheaters.com is an absolute joke - just read the discussion forums where you see one post after another blasting Vatican II, the Novus Ordo, etc. if you are truly the site owner, get control over your discussion forums.

and the discussion forums are a MAJOR part of the content of the fisheaters web site. links to new topics are right on the front page.
And here you find thousands of posts promoting abortion, contraception, gay marriage, and womenpriests. But everyone knows the owner’s don’t agree with everything written in the discussion board.
as I said, a very dangerous web site by a group of extremists, with no authority whatsoever granted from the Catholic Church. it’s a trap for false teachings claiming to be Catholic.
Contrary to popular belief, catholic answers doesn’t have any teaching authority either. Why don’t you back up your accusations a little bit? What incorrect teachings are on fisheaters? Why do you call them extremists when they are in line with what the church has always taught? I can’t imagine what could be said about the owners since they are fully orthodox Catholics. And I think they attend an appoved parish.

I hope you realize that it’s 2 real people that you’re slinging insults at.

a disclaimer doesn’t remove the responsibility of the moderators to clean up the content of their discussion forums. what a joke!

innocent people interested in learning about traditional Catholicism see this web site, and realize what a bunch of kooky people are involved.

fisheaters does a MAJOR disservice to Catholicism. it has no authenticity whatsoever - just a bunch of amateurs espousing their radical beliefs.

it’s not in line with modern Catholic teachings of today. on the front page of Fisheaters, they even poke fun of RCIA classes!

essays calling Vatican 2 an “Ecclesiastical Woodstock”! “demand the ancient Mass!” on their front page, etc.

the reality is that this is a fringe group on the outskirts of Catholicism that holds a radical philosophy not in line with the teachings of the Church today. period.

i am sorry you are taking this person, no insults are intended. i am critiquing the content of fisheaters.com - which is a radical, extremist web site that should be avoided at all costs by anyone seeking to learn more about Catholicism today.

oh, and it’s not just some posters - not just a few - it is many, many posters on fisheaters that hold these radical ideas. the web site is swarming in it.

StGerardMajella, if you dislike fisheaters so much, then you’re being counterproductive because you’re inadvertantly giving FE all sorts of advertising here. People will want to go and see it for themselves after reading this thread. So thanx .🙂

Hi, I’m the other owner of Fish Eaters.
where do you want me to start? try reading the discussion forums - links on the front page.

you won’t have to look too far on these sick discussion forums to find extremism and rhetoric against Vatican II, the Novus Ordo, Pope John Paul II, ecumenism, etc.
And on other Catholic sites you find forums with anti-traditional extremism and rhetoric against Catholics who like the 1962 Missal, Pope Benedict, etc.
if this web site didn’t defame the Catholic Church, I wouldn’t have to be so critical. run by a bunch of amateurs with no authority from the Catholic Church itself.
Yes, and Catholic Answers is run by an “amateur” apologist who has no authority from the Church itself - Karl Keating (though, I suppose Karl can be called “professional” because he does it for a living, yet in reality he does it for love of Christ). And, IMO, he does a great job defending Catholic teaching and protecting the Novus Ordo Mass from those who would abuse the original Missal and the rubrics for their own nefarious ends.

Not my cuppa, because I’m into promoting the traditional 1962 Missal and traditional Catholic culture, but Karl et al. definitely deserve credit for doing a good job at what they do. When people complain about abuses at the Novus Ordo Mass they go to on the fisheaters forum, I send them here or to EWTN to get help.

You should re-read Canon Law (1983 version) before you go too far into this. Especially Title I (Canons 208-223). Neither FE nor CA nor EWTN nor anyone who is honest claims the authority of the Church, however, by those Canons we do claim we are authorized to engage in apologetics.
i am not criticizing anyone’s faith - i am criticizing the content of the fisheaters web site, which is the topic under discussion.
You are also criticizing me and Vox calling us “amateurs” with “no authority”. You know, by saying that you are also criticizing Karl and most of the staff at EWTN who 1) are not priests, 2) do not have STLs or STDs. You’re mischaracterizing both the requirements laid down by the Church for apologetics and also what is claimed by people who engage in apologetics. In other words, you are engaging in a kind of quasi-calumny.

Really, I find this kind of ironic since Vatican II called for more involvement from the laity, and the 1983 Code puts that into law. Though, it has always been Catholic teaching for Catholics to know and defend their faith.

And as far as the forums go, there are plenty of nutjobs that post on CAF - I wouldn’t assign their posts to Karl’s thoughts and intentions, or to the apologetics aspect of CA, would you? I guess you would have to in order to be consistent and intellectually honest.

run by a bunch of amateurs with no authority from the Catholic Church itself.
They have exactly the same authority as Catholic Answers-- zero. And they don’t need any authority. Catholics are not fobidden from thinking and expressing opinions by themselves.
i am not criticizing anyone’s faith - i am criticizing the content of the fisheaters web site, which is the topic under discussion.
You’ve not addressed their website contents at all. You’ve only addressed their message board, with an obvious double standard, as Catholic Answers isn’t blamed for the horrible things people say here.

Still no examples - but plenty of insults.

Fisheaters does not claim any authority… I can’t understand this obsession you seem to have by pointing out they have no authority.

it’s not in line with modern Catholic teachings of today. on the front page of Fisheaters, they even poke fun of RCIA classes!
You are blowing this way out of proportion. They simply stated an example. Surely you agree that not all RCIA instructors are 100% correct (okay, some might be less than 10%) when it comes to Church teaching?

And you keep saying their forum is full of nasty, bigoted extremists thus reflecting the views of the site owners. Hello? Have you taken a look around CAF? 🤷

That is all. :twocents:

a disclaimer doesn’t remove the responsibility of the moderators to clean up the content of their discussion forums. what a joke!
yes, I’m hoping the moderators here will clean up the calumnies being thrown around by some of the posters here.
innocent people interested in learning about traditional Catholicism see this web site, and realize what a bunch of kooky people are involved.
Exactly. Human beings like any other human beings. Catholics like any other Catholics with differences of opinions, joys, sorrows, hopes, eccentricities, errors, truths, etc. I’m glad they see humans and not Jansenist automatons who hate the Pope or Vatican II or however else anti-traditional people would like to paint traditional Catholics.
fisheaters does a MAJOR disservice to Catholicism. it has no authenticity whatsoever - just a bunch of amateurs espousing their radical beliefs.
See my other post before you start throwing those claims around. You are insulting all lay apologists.
it’s not in line with modern Catholic teachings of today. on the front page of Fisheaters, they even poke fun of RCIA classes!
And here we have it: “modern Catholic teachings of today”. Doctrine does not change, only discipline does. You are engaging in heresy - the teachings of Doctrine, especially de fide, cannot change.

Many RCIA classes are horrible and those comments are based on experience.
the reality is that this is a fringe group on the outskirts of Catholicism that holds a radical philosophy not in line with the teachings of the Church today. period.
Again, more heresy. The teachings of the Church do not and cannot change. Or are you claiming that Vatican II changed the teachings of the Church?
i am sorry you are taking this person, no insults are intended. i am critiquing the content of fisheaters.com - which is a radical, extremist web site that should be avoided at all costs by anyone seeking to learn more about Catholicism today.
“Catholicism today”, I get it.
oh, and it’s not just some posters - not just a few - it is many, many posters on fisheaters that hold these radical ideas. the web site is swarming in it.
If you believe the Church can change its teaching, or that it did at Vatican II, then you are the one with the radical ideas.

StGerardMajella;5164837l:
it’s not in line with modern Catholic teachings of today
So there are new “modern teachings of today” that replaced the old ones and made them “kooky” and “extremist”?

I never criticized Catholic Answers - ever. Catholic Answers doesn’t adhere to a singular strain of Catholicism like Fisheaters, and at least has some decorum and decent moderators:

Examples of differences:

Tridentine Mass vs. Novus Ordo
Pre-Vatican II vs. Vatican II
Non-Ecumenical vs. Ecumenical
Eucharist at the rail vs. Eucharist in the hand, etc.

I’ve already given several examples - You just refuse to read and listen. I am not the one calling V2 an “Ecclesiastical Woodstock”, so spare me the drama.

Fisheaters and traditional Catholics advocate for a very tiny minority of the population of Catholics, yet they are quite vocal (as you can see by the attacks coming out of the woodwork to defend this radical web site).

It’s not heresy pointing out the differences in beliefs and practices between traditional Catholicism as practiced by the SSPX, etc. and the modern day post Vatican II Catholic Church (everyone else).

You get the idea. Fisheaters is still a fringe group on the outskirts of Catholicism, even though they wish they were mainstream. They are not.

We can agree to disagree - The web site is very dangerous for those individuals that don’t understand the agenda of the owners - a definite slant and bias against Vatican II and the modern Catholic Church.

(Anyone with a little bit of computer knowledge can create a “Catholic” web site discussion forum. That doesn’t mean that they know what they are talking about, or that they have any authority to speak for Catholicism in general.)

I never criticized Catholic Answers - ever. Catholic Answers doesn’t adhere to a singular strain of Catholicism like Fisheaters, and at least has some decorum and decent moderators:
Exactly - you have a double standard, are engaging in intellectual dishonesty, and quasi-calumny. You use lack of authority and run by amateurs in a pejorative sense against FE, then turn a blind eye to the fact that CA is the same. Further, you ignore the fact that it is OK by the Church for both to be that way. You apply what people post in the forum to the apologetics section of the website for FE, but you don’t do it here. Further, you use all kinds of rhetoric against our friends (forum members) at FE who come from all kinds of backgrounds, thoughts, and ideas, yet you ignore the fact that you’ve come here and posted a heretical thought - that the Church changes her teaching - and that I wouldn’t dare accuse CA or Karl or anyone on the staff of holding that belief.

To sum it up, you have an axe to grind with traditional Catholicism and you will grind that axe no matter what kinds of misrepresentations, proxima calumnies, etc., you need to.
Examples of differences:
Tridentine Mass vs. Novus Ordo
Pre-Vatican II vs. Vatican II
Non-Ecumenical vs. Ecumenical
Eucharist in the hand vs. Eucharist at the rail, etc.
Well, it’s not the “Tridentine Mass” (whatever that is) vs. the Novus Ordo Missae. It’s the Extraordinary Form and the Ordinary Form. And, the Pope says we have the right to like one over the other.

It’s not Pre-Vatican II vs. Vatican II - it’s a proper hermeneutic of continuity. You are the one claiming the Church changed her teachings, not I or Vox or FE.

Its not Non-Ecumenical vs. Ecumenical. The Church has always been ecumenical. However, for sure, there is a lot of false ecumenism going around promoted by people who want to change and/or destroy the Church, those who are confused by what ecumenism means, etc.

Eucharist in the hand is not part of traditional Catholicism so why would a traditional Catholic promote that practice? In fact, it really isn’t the norm now - it was granted a dispensation. Traditionally, Communion-in-the-hand was allowed in times of persecution. However, kneeling at the rail has never been abrogated AFAIK.
I’ve already given several examples - You just refuse to read and listen.
I read, I listened, and I’ve answered. Veni, Vidi, Respondi
Fisheaters and traditional Catholics advocate for a very tiny minority of the population of Catholics, yet they are quite vocal (as you can see by the attacks coming out of the woodwork to defend this radical web site).
As good Catholics, we’re vocal when we see calumny, heresy, etc. Sure, why not?
It’s not heresy pointing out the differences in beliefs and practices between traditional Catholicism as practiced by the SSPX, etc. and the modern day post Vatican II Catholic Church (everyone else).
Aha! So, you see two different Churches? A pre-V2 and a post-V2? Interesting. That, too, however, is heresy as is your contention that Church teaching changes.
You get the idea. Fisheaters is still a fringe group on the outskirts of Catholicism, even though they wish they were mainstream. They are not.
We don’t care about being “mainstream”. We care about being Catholic. Just like CA, EWTN, etc. However, we care about promoting traditional Catholic culture, liturgy, etc.
We can agree to disagree - The web site is very dangerous.
I will not agree to be silent against calumny and heresy which is what you have been filling Karl’s forum with. I venture to guess his moderators will not be quiet either, and this thread will be deleted or you will be banned or both.

plus on top of what you said they only recognize the Douay-Rheims as the only English Catholic Bible
Wrong. catholicforum.fisheaters.com/index.php/topic,3420849.0.html

The D-R is used a lot because it was the most used English translation by Catholics until quite recently. There are several English Catholic Bibles, but why change them? The D-R was done before the KJV (the revision of the D-R to its most used form now, The Douay-Rheims: Challoner Revision, was done after the KJV was released). It is a direct translation of the Vulgate which is the official Bible of the Church and “In 1546, the Council of Trent declared the Latin Vulgate Bible as authentic, and declared that “No one (may) dare or presume under any pretext whatsoever to reject it” (4th Session, April 8, 1546).”.

Yes, there are other approved versions, and they are accepted by the Catholics on that site, although many don’t find them as well done as the D-R.

I don’t know why people feel compelled to lie about other Catholics.

Thank you for editing your post and filling it with more calumnies so the moderators here can see what you are made of.
I am not the one calling V2 an “Ecclesiastical Woodstock”, so spare me the drama.
Oh, is that on the apologetics website? Or did I post that somewhere? If so, show me where. If not, admit you are lying and engaging in calumny because you are implying I or Vox said it.
The web site is very dangerous for those individuals that don’t understand the agenda of the owners - a definite slant and bias against Vatican II and the modern Catholic Church.
So now you can judge the internal forum and discern people’s motives. Maybe you should re-read the statement on the website instead of making stuff up.
That doesn’t mean that they know what they are talking about, or that they have any authority to speak for Catholicism in general.)
And you, sir, are proof of that.

You talk of the “dangers” of the Fish Eaters Forum when your posts could possibly be dangerous as they seem to imply that the Roman Catholic Church has not one but two sets of beliefs.

fisheaters does a MAJOR disservice to Catholicism. it has no authenticity whatsoever - just a bunch of amateurs espousing their radical beliefs.
it’s not in line with modern Catholic teachings of today. on the front page of Fisheaters, they even poke fun of RCIA classes!
The Church is not a human institution. It does not change. These radical beliefs are Catholic. Vox and Quis have their own opinions some of which I do not agree, but the site is well cited and written. What are their radical beliefs? They are Catholic.
the reality is that this is a fringe group on the outskirts of Catholicism that holds a radical philosophy not in line with the teachings of the Church today. period.
“The teachings of the Church today”. Interesting. What teachings have changed? You’ll see their site contains many post VII devotions, such as the Devotion to the Divine Mercy (which was approved after VII)
i am sorry you are taking this person, no insults are intended. i am critiquing the content of fisheaters.com - which is a radical, extremist web site that should be avoided at all costs by anyone seeking to learn more about Catholicism today.

What is so radical about Catholic teachings?

Eh, I reported StGerardMajella’s posts for calumny, heresy, etc. to the moderators. I’m sure Karl doesn’t want his forum filled with this stuff.
