We have talked about the Five First Saturdays in several threads recently. I plan to start them in January 2014. Would you like to join me? I’ll be going to a morning Mass and confession that afternoon. I’ll post after Mass each month.

Since I serve as a Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist at Saturday Evening Masses most weeks, I made 10 of the 12 First Saturdays in 2013. Was so happy I did so well! I like to keep up with First Saturdays, and will be glad to join with you in doing them in 2014! The only times I missed, I was ill on the First Saturday weekends both those months. I’d like to try to make every First Saturday for a year! That would be a joy to me, as I’m very devoted to the Blessed Virgin, and also try to go to Mass on every Marian Solemnity and Feast. Since I am there every Saturday, I don’t go to Confession every week, but try to go once a month. Missed two with ice and snow (plus the two weekends when I was ill), but make it at least once a month, normally. (Too old to have a whole lot of sins nowadays!)
YEP !! Although you could go to the Saturday evening Vigil Mass for both!
(Actually, I’m not totally sure on that, but I think only Saturday counts for this particular blessing.) You could go on Saturday morning Mass, perhaps for 5 months, as well as the Sunday Mass. Then go back to the Sunday mornings for the rest of the year. Otherwise, try the Vigil Mass on Saturday, and make both – at least on the First Saturday of each month.
I have always thought it was Saturday daily Mass, but there wasn’t regular Saturday vigil Masses back when Mary spoke about this devotion. rosary-center.org/firstsat.htm
I haven’t actually made it to First Saturday either month so far this year (the fact that last weekend was the first Saturday totally confused me!)
I’m still planning to do this and have resolved to try to get to daily Mass on Saturday each week - then I will be in the habit by First Saturday in March.
Judynurse, we have commitments to the late Mass on Sundays, so I almost never go to the Saturday vigil. Wonderful for you that you have it “built in” so to speak!
byzantium, if you go to the Saturday evening Mass than that counts for Sunday. If you go to Saturday “daily” Mass - anytime before about 4pm - than you need to go to a Sunday Mass also.
