Yes. Read the article. The school has a place for their son. They are moving him to a different school because he was teased incessantly in public school. The parents were going to have him go by his mother’s maiden name, but they changed their mind.

They obviously don’t care that their kid is being harrassed.

And, I prefer my beer dunkel…although a good Belgian Ale is better than German beer. 😉
👍

I read the article – you are right about the parents not caring about their kid. I still say they need to get out of their English language ghetto. Change their name to “Light”? Like the Schneiders changed their name to “Taylor”?

The problem is you can’t expect all of the kids to get out of their “English language ghetto.” The same could happen with any language.

I don’t remember the word, but a Dutch friend of mine laughed at a political billboard with a candidate whose last name is Dutch slang for male genitalia. The billboard said he was “firm on the issues.” Now, if his kids were to go to a school in Holland, they may get some teasing…I’m pretty sure.

As I said: sometimes you have to change the name. I knew a kid who was tortured to death because his name was “Fuchs” and another whose last name was “Iqbal.” Talk about suffering!

Good thing Cardinal Sin doesn’t have children going to school. 🙂
Well, if kids named Satan, Sin and Hell all went to the same school, it would be handy…just line 'em up in that order and go through the instruction. 😉

Lqbal? What the heck is that?

I went to school with a Fukui…not good. And, my wife would never allow me to name my son after my dad, Cubert (he goes by his middle name, Wade) or my grandfather, also Cubert (he went by “Buck”). Luckily, my mom didn’t name me Cubert, as the video game Q-Bert was popular when I was in school. 😃

I know there’s at least one priest in the U.S. whose last name is Hell: Fr. Hell.

School changd it’s mind;
The school withdrew the invitation when the parents changed their minds about the name, but reversed its decision and offered Max a place once his father publicized the issue.
“After discussions between the parish priest and principal, St. Peter the Apostle School has made an offer of enrollment to the student,” Elder said in a statement. “The school is working with the family in the best interests of the child.”
Hell said his last name is Austrian and means “bright.”

The school withdrew the offer only after the parents changed their minds. It became clear that the interests of the child were not being met. The whole point of having a new school, new name was for the child to avoid being harrassed. When the parents decided not to change the child’s name, they were doing nothing to solve the problem. A new school, new kids - if someone has a funny name, they will still pick up the ball and run with it.

My objection to this story is how everyone is jumping all over the Church. Why was there not one word of criticism for the public school that allowed the kid to be bullied in the first place? They don’t even name the school, although the name of the Catholic school has been spread all over the world. What was the public school Principal doing about it, anything? The ones who actually caused the child harm have slipped out of this smelling like roses while the ones trying to help the boy have been smeared all over the world.

If the father was so concerned about it. why didn’t he go to the media about how his kid was being bullied in the public school because of his name and smear all them instead?

Why smear the ones who were bending over backwards to try to accommodate the wishes of the parents, all in the interests of the child, who only withdrew their placement offer when it was clear that the interests of the child were not going to be met?

It was a cheap shot and the media picked it up cause they could show the Church in a bad light.imo

Yes, it was a cheap shot by the media.

Parents don’t care about the turmoil a name may give them now days.

I know of a set of twins named:
Lemonjello &
Orangejello

Another girl named
Shithead

they aren’t pronounced the way they are spelled but still . . .
