Planned Parenthood infanticide supporter was on board of Catholic Charities

Employees, and apparently directors and board members, of Catholic Charities are not required to be Christian, let alone Catholic.

On the employment application provided by our nearby CC: CC “does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, religion, color, sex, national origin, marital status, disability, arrest and court records, sexual orientation, or other grounds protected under state and federal laws.” Applicants are asked if, as a condition of their employment, they can commit to incorporating into their employment CC’s four core values (dignity, social justice, commitment to excellence, compassion). Because there is no explanation of what these values mean in the context of Catholic teaching; the “values” are apparently interpreted according to the individual’s subjective personal values.

Sad to say, the “Catholic identity” of our Catholic institutions has been made irrelevant.

Well, how else are we suppose to change hearts an minds if we cater only to those who are Catholic? Would you be surprised if Catholics who attend mass are for abortion? We are not a palace for saints, we are a hospital for sinners. People need time to understand Catholic values and principals. Perhaps you can tell us of a perfect charity that we can associate ourselves with?

It is a reasonable expectation (and most people have that expectation) that a Catholic institution does not contradict Catholic values.

When it employs, and is led, by non-Catholics who do not support Catholic values, how can it be reasonably expected to reflect Catholic values in the practical sense?

It is scandalous and makes you wonder who is there on serves on their board currently? I doubt that when Alisa Labolt Snow severed on the board for Catholic Charities that the other people that serve on the board did not know she lobbied for Planned Parenthood. If they did know, did they know from the start of her joining, or did they find out later and ask Alisa Labolt Snow to step down from her serving on the board? We need to know more

I believe Catholics who work for or volunteer for Planned Parenthood should not sit on any Catholic organization or even be permitted to receive communion.

If one can be excommunicated for joining the Masons (which is still in effect) then surely the same can be justified for Planned Parenthood.

Teaching others by example to sin is not charity and in no way helps anyone involved.

People who actively support organizations like PP are in error and shouldn’t be allowed to help run anything that’s Catholic. This is infiltration. Why else would someone of this mindset want to be involved in a Catholic organization? They want to water down and change the organization to reflect what they believe rather than what the Church teaches.

To those who responded to my comments:

Perhaps the person does not know it is a sin. All I am trying to say is we are being quick to judge a person. To throw her to the wolves. I trust in the leadership of CC to hire and possible remove her if need be. I do not want to point fingers and gasp because I think I know better. We cannot disassociate ourselves with the world because we think they do not live up to our values. We have to share and encourage in the faith and truth. That means inviting people who sin to see the good of the Church and our Charities.

Support for planned parenthood is contrary to the faith. No way to justify it.

I don’t. I haven’t contributed to CC for years
Amen. Catholic Charities has been been lending a hand to the forces of abortion and same sex marriage for years.

If you support the teachings of the Catholic Church, I urge you not to be fooled by the name ‘Catholic’ Charities.

No one here is suggesting that pro-choice people should be barred from going to a Catholic church. Maybe it can do them some good and change the way they think. What I’m personally objecting to is allowing someone like Miss Snow to help run a Catholic organization. How can she espouse killing a baby that survived an abortion and then turn around and run a Catholic charity? Think about how opposite those two things are. If she truly believes what she defends regarding PP, she can’t possibly support the Church’s stance on abortion.

I will agree with you on her stance since she made it public. But keep in mind that she no longer works there.

Some people here think that CC is a big monolithic organization. However they are networked with local diocese and local Churches, each working to serve their communities. They are the largest provider of social services (almost $4 Billion Dollars) next to the federal government. To look at this person and say things like “that is why my money will never go to Catholic Charities” is the same as saying “The priest scandal is why I never give to the Church”. A person who you judge to be bad is not the sole representative to the whole organization.

There is undoubtedly some good works performed by Catholic Charities as a whole. However, some of us are privy to what goes in in some of the CCs, and have no desire to support the larger CC until the bishops in charge get their act together.

see: Pope Benedict XVI’s apostolic letter (motu proprio) on Charitable Activities
catholicworldreport.com/Blog/1781/pope_issues_new_motu_proprio_on_charitable_activities.aspx

excerpts:

Art. 2 § 3. In addition to observing the canonical legislation, the collective charitable initiatives to which this Motu Proprio refers are required to follow Catholic principles in their activity and they may not accept commitments which could in any way affect the observance of those principles.

Art. 7. - § 1. The agencies referred to in Article 1 § 1 are required to select their personnel from among persons who share, or at least respect, the Catholic identity of these works.

§ 2. To ensure an evangelical witness in the service of charity, the diocesan Bishop is to take care that those who work in the Church’s charitable apostolate, along with due professional competence, give an example of Christian life and witness to a formation of heart which testifies to a faith working through charity. To this end, he is also to provide for their theological and pastoral formation, through specific curricula agreed upon by the officers of various agencies and through suitable aids to the spiritual life.

Art 9 § 3. It is the duty of the diocesan Bishop and the respective parish priests to see that in this area the faithful are not led into error or misunderstanding; hence they are to prevent publicity being given through parish or diocesan structures to initiatives which, while presenting themselves as charitable, propose choices or methods at odds with the Church’s teaching.

Art. 11. – The diocesan Bishop is obliged, if necessary, to make known to the faithful the fact that the activity of a particular charitable agency is no longer being carried out in conformity with the Church’s teaching, and then to prohibit that agency from using the name “Catholic” and to take the necessary measures should personal responsibilities emerge.

Alisa Lapolt Snow resigned from Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida before starting a consulting relationship with Planned Parenthood.

Alisa Lapolt Snow had served on Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida-Tallahassee’s board of directors, Peggy DeKeyser, director of communications for the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, Fla., confirmed to Catholic News Agency April 9.

“She was vetted before she applied for the board of directors,” DeKeyser said. “There was nothing indicated that would have prevented her from becoming a board of directors’ member at the time.”

Snow resigned from her unpaid position with the Catholic Charities affiliate in January. She then became a lobbyist on behalf of the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates.

DeKeyser suggested that the former board member’s present actions should not affect people’s views of Catholic Charities.
“I don’t think there’s any mistake about the Catholic identity of Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida,” she said. “It is very much at the forefront of delivering a Catholic mission to those in need across northwest Florida. It’s very much an agent of the Gospel and of the mission of Jesus Christ.”
