What is their to gain in looking into all these out there theories about how the governments of the world are all lying to people about the shape of the earth? I go to work 5 days a week for 8 hours, fight traffic and come home tired and sometimes even lift weights and Jog after work. I get to rest two days of the week I pay my bills and eat with the money I make, the government does who knows what with the taxes they get from me and I strive to be a good Catholic and honor our Lord. I would have a bigger beef with the government over how much they tax me that if they were lying to me about the shape of the earth. There would just have to be too much lying involved to keep the real shape of the earth a secret without someone spilling the beans and what would anyone have to gain by lying about it anyway? God cannot exist if the world is found to be flat (which it certainly is not flat)? God can only exist if the earth is round? Come on :shrug:Proving the world is one shape over the other would have any difference on if it is more believable that it was created by a supreme being?

Most peoples lives are like this, I have a feeling its no coincidence this is just how ‘modern life’ is either, I think maybe its ‘engineered’ this way for a reason, keep peoples minds focused on a few things, secular things, so that becomes their lives, I work a lot too and after years and years of doing this, your job does sort of become your life. Majority of people have no other choice, they have to do this, in order to keep their bills paid, keep a roof over their heads, etc etc.

Kind of reminds of magic tricks, keep the audience looking in one direction when the real slight of hand is happening elsewhere.

Its well known Satan has this world tightly in his grip, I dont think he would have the world any different than it is right now…Its really the perfect type of world for a controlling body,

The government can tell me “AHA, we fooled you for years, the earth is really flat, not round… what say you to this you fool?” And all I am going to say is “Then give me a tax break and we will call it even” God can see what I cant. I am interested in going to heaven and not being a burden on anyone in this life by supporting myself. Not in theories about how much I am being lied to by the government.

Some believe in reincarnation, some believe they will return as a cow, some believe in "the laws of attraction…I suppose these and other beliefs may be interesting, but it makes them no less absurd to believe in…
I believe re-incarnation is Biblical and taught privately in the church. I personally believ in it as well as a third of the world population if i remember. You’d be amazed to find something like 20% of Americans believe in re-incarnation. This must be Gods truth at work in them. Its very difficult to make God fair and just without re-incarnation. But this is just a personaly little pet doctrine i believe in… nothing serious.

As far as law of attraction, that is the core believe of a new ‘Pagan religion based on our Bible’ that is stealing Catholic sheep away on a daily basis. This psuedo-Christianity based on emotionalism. The fraud and theft of the TRUE ‘Pentecostal’ Church.

This ‘Pagan Religion Based off the Bible’ is also known as Pentecostalism or the Charasmatic movement. They believe in something called ‘American New Thought’ which became ‘Mind Over Matter’, which is essentially the Law of Attraction. Add the name of the ‘H–y Sp—t’ along with divination and sorcery to the mix and you have Pentecostalism which is ‘The Secret’ 2.0 bathed in emotionalism, pop concerts, and light shows. Naturally, this all really boild down to ‘Do as though wilt’ but adding the precious name of the h— s— to it and now we have people thinking they are just like gods knowing all good and evil (garden pun).

Keep in mind the Church if Satan is another ‘Pagan religion based off our Bible.’ Same with judaism etc. Lutheran etc is not quite the same honestly.

Yes, Ive wondered that myself, in reality what difference would it make if the earth were flat or round? I mean, if we died and found out the Govt had been lying to us about this, what would it change…nothing I can think of.

On the other hand, if there is trickery going on (no matter that the topic), there must be some reason for keeping it secret or some benefit to withholding the truth, and when it comes to secrets of a religious nature, that really makes me wonder…what benefit would there be to withhold any religious information…yet this does happen, the Vatican has information the public is not allowed to access or read.

Reincarnation IS also a pagan belief and I do not believe for a second The Orthodox teach it privately in churches. Why dont you tell your senior pastor everything you have been saying on this thread about reincarnation being Biblical and Jews being pagan? See what he tells you in response. I challenge you to do this.

Perhaps some Pentecostals do subscribe to some kind of Law of attraction in their prayer life, but going as far as to say their denomination is pagan when you yourself subscribe to a pagan belief and call it Biblical despite the fact that there is no evidence anywhere that this belief was ever believed by Christians, that makes you a hypocrite. And I say that with as much charity as possible.

Judaism is indeed a man made, Pagan Religion based on our Bible. It’s probably the first of its sorts. Anyone who says otherwise is saying it based on ignorance - regardless of their credentials or titles. Those in the know, know what i say is true and is not willing to budge on this issue… even a mico-inch.

And yes of course I typed it out wrong obvsiously re-incarnation isnt officially taught, but dont think its anything new, unknown, or taught in some circles.

Yet christianity has been built upon the jewish bible? Yes, its not christian, but its is also a long way from pagan! In the words of Yoda, hummmm sense you are not making.

A pagan religion is non Abrahamic. By definition, Judaism cannot be pagan. Which God do you think modern Jews worship? And those that claim to be Christian but “In the know” sound like gnostics to me. That is a old heresy l.

Ahh wink wink nod nod, Bob’s yer uncle…gotcha, say no more say no more!

Greetings,

Basilica of San Vitale is a church in Ravenna, Italy. It features an image of Christ sitting on a blue
**spherical globe representing earth.
**As King of the world, Jesus is robed in majestic purple.

http://www.defendingthebride.com/code/Basilica_of_San_Vitale85.jpg

Clearly the Church knew at least by AD 547 that the shape of the earth was spherical.

.
Honestly, John, this image looks a WHOLE LOT like the still, flat-earth images, and not anything like the racing whirling sphere (which we all know illustrated in stop-motion). This picture looks like a nice circular flat plate. A still one, at that.😃

So I don’t think it will support the common ball-earth theory. There is Catholic art to support ball-earth. But this image belongs to the flat-earth side, IMO. 🙂

Here is a writer from Proverbs who seems to be saying he was there. He says it went like this:

"When He prepared the heavens, I was there:** when He set a** compass upon the face of the deep…"

*- Proverbs 8:27
*
(compasses make circles, not spheres.🙂 )

A Sphere Not a flat Disk

Jesus is dressed in purple garments. Purple dye was very expensive in ancient times. Only royalty were allowed to wear it. Thus, the artist was clearly stating that his was an image of Christ, the King of the World, which was represented by Planet Earth. A person cannot sit on the edge of a disk that is standing upright. The only way to sit on it would be to lay the disk flat on the ground. However in that case, Jesus’ head would be at best only waist high next to those who are clearly standing on their feet. Yet, Jesus is at eye level with those standing. Therefore, Jesus, King of World, must be sitting on a sphere, and not a flat disk. And if you look closely, both of the two different images located in two different cities shows gradations of blue from the center to the edge, thus showing a somewhat 3D effect. The complaint that the artist did not make use of modern NASA type images is not realistic. This image was created more than 900 years before Nicolaus Copernicus was even born. Only by his theories and discoveries did we eventually come to learn the earth was whirling around is axis and “racing” around the sun. The point here is that the earth was spherical, not whether or not it was “whirling” or “racing.”

Second, there was no real debate about whether the Earth was flat. All the reasonably educated people in the sixth century, just as today, knew the earth had a globular or spherical shape, more or less. So, the artist could assume the people would have known the image under Jesus was spherical, not flat. See Easy Proof below. If the artists in the sixth century, according to the above objector’s ill reasoned opinion, and these artists were wanting to represent the earth as flat, they would have more likely used a rectangle not circle.

Isaiah 11:12
“He will … gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.”

It was, and still is, common jargon to speak of the earth this way, as having four corners, because on the earth we describe the earth as having four directions, North, East, South , and West. In Jewish thought and language the earth and the altar represent each other. Everything is described in its relationship with God. The Altar is a microcosm of the earth. Therefore, it was common to speak of each as having “four corners” because the Altar was described as having “four corners.” Scott Hahn, Ph.D., explains this well.

Exodus 38:1-2
“He made the altar of … and … He made horns for it on its four corners”

Therefore, the image under Christ is not a circle (or a rectangle) but a sphere. The artist knew people would understand it as such. Unlike some uneducated people today who enjoy endless debates on meaningless issues, it was common knowledge among the reasonably educated people of the sixth century that the earth has, more or less, a spherical shape.
I personally believe the earth is flat as now we have laser tests basically proving it.

.
SnoopSword, your ideas are nonsense. I object that you seem to want to destroy my thread by going off subject.

Your pictures of mountain top or the ocean have to narrow of a view to be relevant.

Proof : Earth Spherical Not Flat

There are several ways to prove that the earth, more or less, has a globular or spherical shape. You can look at pictures or even videos from orbiting satellites. However, there is a much easier method to prove that the earth is not flat. And this method was well known for centuries before Christopher Columbus.

Easy Proof:

The easiest way to prove that the earth has a spherical shape (more or less) is to use the flattest thing on earth. Water.
All you need is a descent size boat, a twenty foot high landmark, and a good size lake. Water always seeks its own level. Therefore, it lays as flat as possible. On a calm day even the oceans waves are less than six feet high. Embark on the boat away from the landmark that is taller than the waves. A twenty foot high building well exceeds the height of waves on your average day. On the boat stand on a deck that is ten feet above the water. You will notice the landmark sink below horizon because the earth is NOT flat. The earth has a more or less spherical shape. It you sail at night use a light emitting from the top floor of the building, or make use of a lighthouse. This experiment will prove beyond any shadow of a doubt that the earth is spherical because an unobstructed light can be seen for miles away in the darkness. Many people have been on cruises and seen this for themselves.

And perhaps an even easier way to prove the earth’s shape is to do the following. Observe a night view across a big lake from the second floor of a building. You would easily see light coming from the other side of the lake from a similar second story building which also had its lights on. For example, look from Chicago across Lake Michigan to the Michigan state side at night. The fact is, all you see is darkness because the curvature of the earth obstructs the light. Therefore, the earth is not flat.

The ancient mariners knew their life was on the line and they were no fools. They knew this too.

What is the Myth About the Flat Earth ?**

The myth is NOT that the people in the so called “Dark Ages” or even that the people in the Middle Ages thought the earth was flat. These people clearly knew then as well as people do now that the earth is not flat, but rather spherical, more or less, in shape.

The Myth is the modern thought that falsely accused the Christians living in the Middle Ages ( that is, in the sixth century or even arguably before that) of being intellectually hampered by religion. This modern myth falsely accuses these people of thinking the earth is flat.
Are some of these posts serious, or is this some sort of “spoof thread?”
This is a very serious thread. Perhaps that is why so many are trying to go off subject and to destroy this thread.

Why is this Important ?

This myth, that the early Christians were ignorant and that their thought process was hampered by religion, was started by atheists who wished to oppose and oppress Christianity.

Apparently others do not want you know about the atheists attacks or to take them seriously.

A Sphere Not a flat Disk.
That’s not what I see depicted in this artist rendering, is what I am saying. Its a matter of eye. I suspect most people would say it LOOKS like a disc. That’s all.
Jesus is dressed in purple garments. Purple dye was very expensive in ancient times. Only royalty were allowed to wear it. Thus, the artist was clearly stating that his was an image of Christ, the King of the World, which was represented by Planet Earth.
We are on the same page here!
A person cannot sit on the edge of a disk that is standing upright. The only way to sit on it would be to lay the disk flat on the ground. However in that case, Jesus’ head would be at best only waist high next to those who are clearly standing on their feet. Yet, Jesus is at eye level with those standing. Therefore, Jesus, King of World, must be sitting on a sphere, and not a flat disk.
.
I am just telling you what the picture looks like. A flat plate, a disc, not a sphere. I don’t know who is standing there but what I see is two angels next to him. They are floating (they have wings), and he is sitting on a disc, or, it could be an attempt to draw a dome of firmament over the circle of the earth. Whether it is a disc or possibly a solid dome on a disc (as earth is described in scripture), it appears to be floating. Like on water or air. Not flat against the ground. Not upright. That’s what it appears to be. It appears to be either of those - and not a sphere.
And if you look closely, both of the two different images located in two different cities shows gradations of blue from the center to the edge, thus showing a somewhat 3D effect…
And the* white edge* is seen in flat earth maps as the antarctic border around the flat earth.

Maybe you haven’t seen those maps. If you did, you’d agree.
The complaint that the artist did not make use of modern NASA type images is not realistic…
You must have been talking to someone else. That wasn’t me.🤷
This image was created more than 900 years before Nicolaus Copernicus was even born…
That Mason!
Only by his theories and discoveries did we eventually come to learn the earth was whirling around is axis and “racing” around the sun. .
Yes, this is what we all know and have learned and seen amazing artwork that proves its truth beyond any doubt. So we *know. *Even though there are no Biblical quotes to give us the idea we are racing at 1000 miles an hour. I don’t know why that is but I know everything I ever learned is true because I trust our government and I trust educators and universities and schools and the media. They would not lie.
The point here is that the earth was spherical, not whether or not it was “whirling” or “racing.”.
Yes I get it. My point is there is a recent resurgence of the Flat Earth theory, and its pretty interesting. These people are to be mocked and scoffed, of course, because they are going against what we have always been taught, and against what is so clear in the stunning NASA artwork that is such a part of our culture, and our pride. And we, in recent centuries, likely due to our culture’s increasingly superior holiness and godliness, are so much smarter than people of previous centuries, so, it should be obvious who is right. We are.

Nonetheless, there are two theories. The funny crazy one, and the one we all know and love, and take pride in, the one that is proof of our superior intelligence.

So I am just saying this painting supports the funny crazy theory, quite clearly, IMO.

There is lots of other Catholic art to support what we with our superior advanced minds of these advanced modern times know to be true. But I don’t think we can claim this particular one for the “smart side”, is all I am saying.:nope:

There is evidence that the earth is flat. Not great, but still…

In May of 1931, a Swiss scientist and explorer by the name of Auguste Piccard was the first man to go into and explore the earth’s upper stratosphere, in his round metallic machine.

Popular Science magazine published, in August of 1931, an article on the voyage. As the article states, when Auguste Piccard observed the earth through the portholes when in the upper stratosphere, he made this observation about the shape of the earth…“It seemed a flat disk with upturned edge.”

So the first man to ever go into earth’s upper stratosphere described the shape of the earth as seeming to be flat. Bear in mind that Piccard made this journey and observation long before NASA came into existence.

Here’s the story:

youtube.com/watch?v=EJB5H9gW0x0

I’m sure its been pointed out, but while the average person was under the illusion the Earth was flat, this was not believed at least by people exposed to Eratosthenes who in 240 B.C. in Egypt worked out a very close approximation of the circumference of the Earth. There were people who always questioned the idea of flatness, like why didn’t all the water disappear…

I can’t recall where I read it, but a lot folks knew the Earth must be round because they could see the top of sails, and saw how they descended to the water as ships moved over the horizon, indicating the Earth was round.
